Job summary

MDE Group in Bristol is seeking a Production Technician to join a busy production team. You will assemble complex, high-specification systems and sub-assemblies, working to precise quality standards in a regulated environment.

The role requires a time-served electrical apprenticeship or equivalent and strong wiring, soldering, and schematic-reading skills. Rotating shifts, 37 hours per week, and opportunities for career progression are offered.

Qualifications

  • Time-served electrical apprenticeship or equivalent (City & Guilds Part 3, HND/HNC or BTech Level 3).
  • Proven wiring skills including lead-free soldering and panel wiring to schematics.
  • Ability to fault-find and implement corrective actions.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience, combining mechanical, electrical and electronic assembly.
  • Experience in semiconductor or plasma tech is a plus.
  • High attention to detail and high build quality standards.
  • Comfortable with rotating shift patterns.

Responsibilities

  • Build systems, sub-assemblies and parts for complex systems to quality levels and ISO standards.
  • Ensure BOM and customer specs are met.
  • Identify and resolve build problems and report issues via FRACAS.
  • Train and guide less experienced technicians.
  • Maintain and develop technical competence through ongoing training.
  • Uphold high standards of cleanliness, housekeeping and health and safety.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within production.

Job description

Production Technician | Bristol | Up to £38,000 + Shift Allowance

Permanent | Full-Time | 37 hours per week | Rotating Shifts

Shifts

Rotating every two weeks:

  • Mornings: Monday to Friday, 6:00am to 2:00pm
  • Afternoons: Monday to Thursday, 2:00pm to 10:00pm / Fridays 6:00am to 11:00am and 11:00am to 4:00pm

Each working week consists of four 8-hour shifts and one 5-hour shift. Enhanced shift rates apply.

The role

A leading high-tech engineering and manufacturing organisation in Bristol is looking for a Production Technician to join their busy production team.   • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the production team

What we're looking for

  • Time-served electrical apprenticeship, City and Guilds Part 3, HND, HNC, or BTech Level 3
  • Detailed wiring skills including lead-free soldering, panel wiring to schematics, and ability to read electrical drawings
  • Ability to fault find and implement corrective action
  • 3 or more years of relevant experience
  • Ideally a combination of mechanical, electrical and electronic assembly skills
  • Experience in the semiconductor or plasma technology industry is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and high build quality standards
  • Comfortable working a rotating shift pattern reliably

The process

Candidates will complete a two-hour technical assessment (mechanical or electrical depending on discipline) as part of the selection process. Starting salary is influenced by assessment performance and relevant experience, with scope for review at six months for higher-banded starters.
