At Babcock, we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together. If you join us, you can play your part leading and developing your team as a Supervisor within your Trade.

We currently have multiple opportunities for experienced trades professionals in disciplines such as Welding and Fabrication within our Hotworks bays, as well as our lifting and slinging operations. Join our production teams in Rosyth, where you'll play a key role in helping to build the new ‘Inspiration’ class, Type 31 frigate, as a Supervisor within your Trade to lead and support your teams within the Build Hall.

Type 31 will be at the heart of the Royal Navy’s surface fleet, deterring aggression and maintaining the security of the UK’s interests. They will work alongside the UK’s allies to deliver a warship presence across the globe and enable forward naval operations.

We’re committed to delivering five Type 31 frigates by the end of the project, with operations and opportunities spanning the UK. Your career can grow across our business.

The role

As a supervisor, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. If you bring technical expertise, team leadership skills, and a safe working attitude, we can offer you one of the most exciting engineering projects in the country.

You’ll be part of a friendly, supportive team working alongside experienced professionals. You will lead your Trade team, carrying out electrical, welding, fabrication, or lifting activities in a production environment supporting the Type 31 unit build — from piece part creation to manufacture and whole ship assembly.

Key Tasks and Activities will include:

  • Creating and reviewing risk assessments.
  • Ensuring effective communication and adherence to toolbox talks and safety briefs.
  • Establishing and maintaining safe working practices and environments according to company policies.
  • Managing workload to meet programme requirements while achieving cost, time, and quality goals.
  • Owning activity levels within your area.

The supervisor role includes but is not limited to:

  • Working with internal and external stakeholders to achieve team and individual goals.
  • Influencing key suppliers and programme stakeholders.
  • Demonstrating good team leadership, planning, prioritising, and delegating work in a dynamic environment.
  • Exhibiting excellent communication, interpersonal, coaching, and influencing skills.
  • Maintaining strong customer awareness.
  • Having an open mind to change.

This is a full-time role, 37 hours per week, Monday to Thursday, with opportunities for overtime and shift work to increase earnings.

Your safety and wellbeing are our priority. We operate in a high-risk environment, and we seek individuals who understand and respect health and safety standards.

Qualifications of the Supervisor:

  • Strong trade bias with relevant technical qualifications and experience.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent planning and coordination skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.

All applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a minimum of Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance for this role.

Many positions are subject to national security clearance and trade restrictions, which may be influenced by your nationality, citizenship, or residency. Further details are available at United Kingdom Security Vetting: clearance levels.

Our Benefits

  • Generous holiday allowance.
  • Matched contribution pension scheme with life assurance.
  • Employee share scheme.
  • Employee shopping savings portal.
  • Payment of professional fees.
  • Special paid leave for Reservists in the armed forces.
  • Holiday Trading, allowing employees to buy or sell leave.
  • ‘Be Kind Day’ for volunteering, paid leave once a year.
