About the Role

Reporting to the Machine Shop Production Manager, the Machine Shop Production Supervisor supports manufacturing operations to achieve business performance targets. You will lead continuous improvement initiatives, foster a culture of operational excellence, and ensure production aligns with quality standards and delivery deadlines. A key focus of this role is to enhance manufacturing efficiency, reduce cycle times, and uphold safety standards. Your technical expertise in machining and threading operations, along with your ability to interpret engineering drawings, will be essential to the success of the Montrose workshop.

Key Responsibilities

  • Schedule and assign production tasks, set priorities, monitor progress, and revise plans as needed
  • Plan sequences of work orders to maximize operational efficiency
  • Drive team performance toward achieving revenue, man-hour, and delivery targets
  • Supervise machining operations and ensure compliance with HSE and housekeeping standards
  • Liaise with the Production Manager to manage sub-contracting operations
  • Develop and maintain a flexible labor pool to meet fluctuating production demands
  • Monitor and maintain equipment, report malfunctions, and plan for repairs and upgrades
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards, manage non-conformances, and maintain traceability
  • Enforce performance expectations and labor allocations to meet production schedules
  • Identify and act on new technologies and techniques for business improvement
  • Represent the company in customer interactions and prepare customer quotations
  • Identify training needs from appraisals and safety assessments
  • Collaborate across departments for seamless production execution
  • Participate actively in management, HSE, and quality forums

Qualifications & Skills

Essential:

  • Time-served apprenticeship or HND in a relevant discipline
  • Extensive experience in a machine shop environment
  • In-depth knowledge of machining and threading operations
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems

Desirable:

  • Degree-level qualification in Engineering
  • Familiarity with Lean and Six Sigma methodologies
  • Understanding of industry-standard components and their uses
