A leading global manufacturing site in Pencaitland is seeking a Production Operator to join their team. The role offers diverse responsibilities within maltings and silo operations, requiring hands-on experience and compliance with health and safety standards. A flexible shift pattern (4 on / 4 off) is essential, and candidates should possess relevant industry knowledge.

£34,000 – £36,000 + bonus & 25 days holiday + bank holidays
4 on / 4 off rotating shifts (Days 6am–6pm / Nights 6pm–6am)
Are you experienced in industrial-scale production environments and looking to take on a varied, hands-on operational role? Join a well-established, global manufacturing site operating 24/7, supplying high-quality product to the brewing, distilling, and food sectors.
You’ll be working as part of a small, skilled team ensuring the smooth running of both maltings and silo operations across the site. Duties will include:
Key Responsibilities:
Operate and monitor Steeping, Germination, and Kilning processes
Manage silo operations: grain movement, sampling, and record-keeping
Produce residual pellets and handle by-products
Liaise with commercial, engineering, and site management teams
Complete cleaning duties in line with hygiene standards
Operate borehole chemical dosing and effluent treatment plant
Perform basic maintenance tasks and assist engineers
Conduct product dispatch, container loading, and weighbridge operation
Use forklift, scissor lift, and Manitou equipment where required
Participate in harvest operations and support temporary workers
General Compliance:
Follow health & safety legislation, food safety regulations, and quality/environmental procedures
Maintain accurate records and operate machinery safely and effectively
Support other areas of the plant as required through training
Literate and numerate
Self-motivated and proactive with strong problem-solving skills
Flexibility to work rotating shifts including nights
Experience in a production or manufacturing environment
Solid understanding of Health & Safety in an industrial setting
Experience in malting, brewing, distilling, or food production
Forklift licence or previous FLT/scissor lift/telehandler use
Shift pattern: 4 on / 4 off (2 days, 2 nights, 4 off), 42 hours per week
