Job Description:

Dale Farm Cooperative is a UK dairy farmer co-operative owned by over 1200 dairy farmers who supply us with fresh milk. Dale Farm has operations throughout the UK and Ireland producing and distributing a wide range of dairy products which it sells across the UK and Ireland as well as exporting to over 45 countries worldwide.

We wish to fill the following key position at our Bulk Cheese and Whey processing plant at Dunmanbridge near Cookstown:

Production Process Technician

As a key member of the Bulk Cheese and Whey team, a Production Process Technician will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient production of quality cheese and whey products.

Responsibilities

  • Health & Safety: Follow health and safety rules and company policies. Produce risk assessments and method statements for tasks as required. Report any near misses or incidents immediately to the Shift Manager or Relief.
  • Operate and Monitor Equipment: Oversee the operation of machinery involved in cheese and whey production, ensuring efficiency and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Quality Control: Conduct regular quality checks on raw materials, intermediate products, and finished goods to maintain high standards of product quality.
  • Troubleshooting: Take ownership and responsibility to resolve issues promptly to minimize downtime and ensure smooth operations.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of production activities, including batch records, equipment maintenance logs, and quality assurance documents.
  • Sanitation and Hygiene: Ensure compliance with sanitation procedures and hygiene standards to uphold food safety regulations and prevent contamination.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production staff, quality assurance personnel, and maintenance technicians, to optimize production processes and resolve issues effectively.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in initiatives aimed at enhancing production efficiency, reducing waste, and implementing best practices in cheese and whey production.
  • Training: Fully embrace all training for the role and be prepared to cross-train within the department to support factory targets.
  • Process Optimization: Apply knowledge from training to identify opportunities for process improvements and cost reductions.
  • Other Duties: Undertake any other reasonable duties as assigned, including inventory management, supporting new product development trials, or participating in facility maintenance tasks.

The Successful Candidate

Required

  • Good general education – minimum 3 GCSEs (including English and Math) or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years’ relevant food manufacturing/FMCG experience.
  • Technical skills – mechanical, electrical/electronic, or mechatronics.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • H&S experience or responsibilities in manufacturing.
  • Working knowledge of a SCADA-based manufacturing plant.
  • Knowledge of Cheese or Whey Production Process.
