Job summary

Job Advert in Royston is seeking a Production Planner to join a growing manufacturing team. You will convert customer orders into production schedules and ensure on-time delivery, working with Sales, Procurement and Production to hit deadlines.

This is a full-time, office-based role with flexible start/finish times. The office operates 7:00am–5:00pm, with typical hours around 7:30am–4:30pm or 8:00am–5:00pm. Strong Excel and maths skills, Lean/JIT knowledge, and GCSE English/Maths are required.

Qualifications

  • Experience in production planning, scheduling or demand planning in manufacturing/engineering.
  • Excellent Excel skills and data handling.
  • Strong maths ability and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Lean and JIT knowledge.
  • Understanding of demand planning, lead times and capacity.
  • GCSE/Level English and Maths completed.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and schedule daily production to meet targets and deadlines.
  • Maintain/update production schedules reflecting actual progress.
  • Coordinate with Customer Service, Sales, Procurement and Production to meet OTIF targets.
  • Track metrics: cycle times, efficiency and capacity.
  • Assist with order processing and logistics.
  • Communicate dispatch dates to customers promptly.
  • Monitor lead times and flag potential issues early.
  • Support continuous improvement across planning/production processes.

Salary:£35,000 - £40,000

An excellent opportunity has now arisen for a Production Planner to join our client's successful and growing manufacturing team.

Who are they?

Our client is an innovative and fast-growing manufacturing business specialising in the design, manufacture and supply of specialist products to the construction and roofing industries.

They are looking for an organised and commercially aware Production Planner to sit at the heart of their operations, turning customer orders into accurate production schedules and ensuring production runs efficiently while customer deadlines are met.

This is a full-time, office-based position with flexible start and finish times. The office is open from 7:00am to 5:00pm, with examples of working hours including 7:30am-4:30pm or 8:00am-5:00pm.

Duties of a Production Planner:
  • Plan and schedule daily production activities to meet production targets and customer deadlines
  • Maintain and update production schedules to accurately reflect actual production times and progress
  • Coordinate with Customer Service, Sales, Procurement and Production teams to support OTIF targets
  • Track and analyse production metrics, including cycle times, efficiency and capacity
  • Work closely with the Operations Manager to identify and resolve potential capacity constraints
  • Assist with aspects of order processing and logistics
  • Communicate dispatch dates to customers in a timely manner
  • Coordinate with courier and transport providers
  • Complete necessary cost reporting for projects
  • Monitor lead times and proactively identify potential issues before they impact production or customer deadlines
  • Manage competing priorities and respond with urgency when required
  • Support continuous improvement across planning and production processes
What we would like from you:
  • Previous experience within production planning, scheduling or demand planning, ideally within a manufacturing or engineering environment
  • Excellent Excel skills and confidence working with data and numerical information
  • Strong mathematical ability
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills with a meticulous eye for detail and accuracy
  • Experience or understanding of Lean and JIT principles
  • Understanding of demand planning, production lead times and capacity
  • Experience using Sage would be advantageous
  • A proactive approach with the ability to identify and resolve potential issues before they become problems
  • A customer-first mindset with a strong focus on meeting deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure while managing multiple competing priorities
  • GCSE/A Level results demonstrating passes in English and Mathematics
