Job description

ASD Ltd is one of the leading metal stockholders and processing suppliers in the UK. We supply a diverse range of ferrous and non-ferrous products, supported by extensive in-house processing capabilities and technical expertise. This enables us to provide cost-efficient metal solutions and high-quality steel products to our customers.

Sustainability is also a key priority for us. We are committed to playing an active role in building a sustainable future for our employees, customers, communities and future generations.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced and highly organised Scheduler and Production Planner to join our steel processing operation.

This is a key role within the business, responsible for planning and coordinating production activity to ensure customer requirements are achieved safely, efficiently and on time. You will work closely with colleagues across the business to make sure the right work is scheduled, the necessary materials are available and production capacity is used effectively.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, solving problems and making decisions that have a direct impact on operational performance and customer service.

What you will be doing
  • Create and maintain production schedules across our steel processing operations.
  • Plan work according to customer requirements, material availability, machine capabilities and production capacity.
  • Prioritise workloads to maximise machine utilisation and ensure customer delivery dates are achieved.
  • Monitor production against the schedule and make adjustments where circumstances change.
  • Re-plan work in response to changes in customer requirements, machine breakdowns, material shortages or other operational issues.
  • Identify potential production and delivery problems early and take action to minimise their impact.
  • Coordinate with Sales and Customer Service regarding order priorities and delivery requirements.
  • Liaise with Warehouse and Purchasing to ensure the required steel and other materials are available.
  • Monitor outstanding work and ensure delayed or incomplete orders are appropriately re-scheduled.
  • Provide regular updates to the wider management and production teams on workload, capacity and potential delivery risks.
  • Analyse production information to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, productivity and machine utilisation.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the planning and production processes.
What we are looking for

We are looking for someone with previous experience in production planning, scheduling or production control, ideally within a steel, metal processing, engineering or manufacturing environment.

You will need:

  • Strong organisational and planning skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and changing requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and experience using ERP or production planning systems. Experience of SAP would be an advantage.
  • The ability to understand production capacity, machine constraints and manufacturing processes.
  • A proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues before they affect customers.
  • The ability to remain calm and focused in a busy, deadline-driven environment.

Experience within steel processing or a similar heavy manufacturing environment would be highly advantageous.

This is a role where your planning and decision-making will have a genuine impact. You will play an important part in ensuring our processing operation runs efficiently, production capacity is maximised and our customers receive their orders when promised.

You will join a business where there is an opportunity to make a real difference, improve processes and work closely with an experienced operational team.

What we offer:

As well as a competitive salary (£35,000 to £40,000 per annum) we also offer an attractive benefits package which includes:

  • Life assurance
  • Contributory pension (5% contribution matched by the company)
  • Discount cards for shops and restaurants
  • Gym and health club discounts
  • Holiday trading
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Medicash (healthcare) programme
  • Employee assistance programme
  • Lifetime financial wellbeing
