Job summary

Shepley Spring Ltd. is seeking a Production Operative to support the smooth running of our Yorkshire site. You will operate production machinery, handle materials and carry out quality checks to ensure our products meet strict food safety and quality standards.

Working in a fast-paced, team-focused environment, you will follow GMP and HACCP protocols, assist with packaging and storage, and help maintain accurate records while prioritising safety and efficiency across shifts.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a food and beverage manufacturing environment is preferred.
• Proficiency in operating forklifts and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
• Basic understanding of food safety, hygiene, and quality control processes in a manufacturing setting.
• Ability to perform manual tasks, including lifting, carrying, and moving materials.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.
• Demonstrable experience and understanding of production line processes and machinery operation.

Responsibilities

• Operate production machinery and equipment in line with standard operating procedures.
• Monitor production lines for quality control, ensuring products meet food safety and quality standards.
• Perform basic troubleshooting and adjustments on machinery to ensure efficient production.
• Pack, label, and prepare finished goods for storage or shipment, ensuring accuracy in quantities and labelling.
• Carry out quality checks and maintain records of production output.
• Ensure safe working practices in the production area and adhere to health and safety regulations.
• Maintain GMP and food safety protocols (e.g., HACCP).
• Ensure PPE is worn and equipment is used correctly.
• Follow lockout/tagout procedures during maintenance or repairs on machinery.
• Assist with movement and storage of raw materials and supplies.
• Help maintain inventory records and assist in stock checks.
• Monitor material usage and inform supervisors when stock levels are low.
• Ensure proper handling and storage of materials to prevent contamination.

Shepley Spring are the UK’s leading bottled water manufacturer with over 20 years’ experience in production and are proud to remain a family run business to this day.

The company operates in three manufacturing facilities in Yorkshire and owns several high-speed production lines with the capabilities of producing both still and sparkling water servicing leading retailers such as Morrisons, Costco, Booker Tesco and Iceland through private label and produces the brands Ice Valley® and White Rock® exclusively.

Summary:

The Production Operative is responsible for assisting in the smooth running of the production process across the site. This includes operating production machinery, handling materials and ensuring the quality of products. The role ensures that production targets are met while maintaining high standards of safety, hygiene, and food quality.

Key Responsibilities:

Production Support:

• Assist in the operation of production machinery and equipment in line with standard operating procedures.
• Monitor production lines for quality control, ensuring products meet food safety and quality standards.
• Perform basic troubleshooting and adjustments on machinery to ensure efficient production.
• Pack, label, and prepare finished goods for storage or shipment, ensuring accuracy in quantities and labelling.
• Carry out quality checks and maintain records of production output.

Health and Safety Compliance:

• Ensure safe working practices in the production area and adhering to all relevant health and safety and food safety regulations.
• Maintain a clean and organized working environment, ensuring compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and food safety protocols (e.g., HACCP).
• Ensure that personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn at all times, and that equipment is used correctly.
• Follow lockout/tagout procedures when performing maintenance or repairs on machinery.

Material Handling and Inventory Management:

• Assist with the movement and storage of raw materials, packaging, and other supplies.
• Help maintain inventory records and assist in stock checks as required.
• Monitor material usage on production lines and inform supervisors when stock levels are low or reordering is needed.
• Ensure proper handling and storage of materials to prevent contamination or spoilage.

Team Collaboration and Communication:

• Work closely with other production operatives, machine operators, and supervisors to ensure the production process runs smoothly and efficiently.
• Communicate effectively with the production team to ensure any production issues are addressed promptly.
• Report any issues with production equipment, materials, or safety concerns to the supervisor or relevant team.

General Maintenance and Housekeeping:

• Assist with general housekeeping duties, including cleaning production areas, equipment, and storage areas.
• Follow food safety and hygiene procedures to ensure the cleanliness and safety of the production environment.
• Participate in routine cleaning and maintenance tasks in accordance with facility protocols.
