Job description

Job title: Production Manager - Powertrain

Location: Glasgow. On site

Salary: Up to £68,000 depending on skills and experience

What you'll be doing:

  • Responsible and accountable for delivery and execution of the T26 Propulsion Powertrain Integration Programme on T26 (Alignment and installation through to Systems Hand-over and Commissioning)
  • Promote and maintain a positive safety culture that prioritises safety and wellbeing of all employees, whilst ensuring compliance with the companies HSE Environmental legislation
  • Provide effective leadership and work collaboratively with a multi organisation/multi-functional team with IPs, OEMs and Major Subcontractors to ensure scope is completed safely, on time and to stringent quality requirements
  • Ensure a compliant and certifiable Propulsion Powertrain Alignment is delivered in line with contractual standards and all inspection criteria is met and in accordance with appropriate business and project governance
  • Responsible for the team's performance and daily earned value management progress through the detailed work plans and business system. Setting daily and weekly targets to ensure the team maintain due date performance and ensuring schedule adherence and milestone achievement throughout
  • Be responsible for influencing and co-ordinating planning of scope, resolving all internal and external dependencies including material management
  • Effective deployment of resource allocation for upcoming tasks to ensure operators are fully SQEP in planned activities or the balance of experience is suitably managed

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • Safety focused with experience in managing teams within a high-risk environment
  • Recognised experience of delivering complex mechanical engineering packages of work within a manufacturing environment
  • Excellent leadership, delegation and team building skills to deliver enhanced performance within a multi-disciplined team.
  • Experienced in Earned Value Management, planning/ forecasting and budgeting

Desirable:

  • Honours Degree or equivalent in an appropriate subject
  • In depth knowledge of component parts and Systems that form the overall Propulsion Powertrain Design of a naval vessel

The Powertrain Delivery Team:

As a Production Manager responsible for the powertrain installation, you will have the exciting opportunity of delivering a complex and critical package of work, working concurrently on multiple vessels across our Scotstoun and Govan sites.

Type 26 has one of the most complex mechanical propulsion systems on any ship; achieving a high quality installation and proving the design and creating repeatability across class is of major strategic importance to the business. The programme has therefore decided to invest in an Integrated Team, comprised of the best SQEP available to ensure this activity is delivered to Safety, Quality, Cost and Programme and that an enduring capability is created.

This role is accountable for a critical element of the Type 26 programme by delivering the Planning, Preparation and Execution work scope related to the Type 26 Propulsion Powertrain (Mechanical installation and alignment from GT to Propellers). This includes integration of all activities through to the point of handover to commissioning.

The intent is to directly lead integration and delivery of the work-scope across the programme and in doing so to develop processes, capability, SQEP and documented ways of working to enable successful completion of follow on ships by the functional teams.

Additionally the job holder is ultimately responsible for the management and coordination of suppliers and major sub-contractors to support the completion of all Propulsion Powertrain activities on and off board Type 26.
