Job summary

Ruth Wagstaff Recruitment is helping a global precision engineering business in South Nottingham recruit an experienced Production Manager. You will lead a ~70-person shop floor, drive daily operational decisions and champion Lean/CI across the site.

This hands-on leadership role requires strong TPM, cost control and collaboration with Supply Chain. An engineering degree and Six Sigma are highly advantageous.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as Production Manager/Manufacturing Manager or Production Supervisor in precision engineering.
• Experience managing teams in a CNC/precision manufacturing environment.
• 5+ years' people management experience.
• Strong understanding of production planning, quality, engineering, Lean, finance, HR and IT.
• Practical experience of Continuous Improvement / Lean Manufacturing.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Engineering/Manufacturing degree advantageous but not essential.
• Six Sigma qualification advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Overall responsibility for production performance, ensuring quality, delivery, cost and safety targets are achieved.
• Set and monitor production goals and performance expectations.
• Maximise machine utilisation and promote a strong TPM culture.
• Drive Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives.
• Manage production cost centres and identify cost reduction opportunities.
• Ensure effective communication and collaboration across Production and other departments.
• Work closely with Supply Chain on Make vs Buy decisions.
• Support the introduction of new technologies, working with global teams where required.
• Conduct appraisals and develop talent across the production team.

Great career opportunity for an experienced Production Manager / Manufacturing Manager to join a successful global company at their manufacturing site in South Nottingham, operating within the precision engineering sector.

As Production Manager, you will have responsibility for all production areas on site, managing a team of approximately 70 people and work with the overall Site Manager.

This is a genuinely hands‑on Production Manager role. The company is looking for someone who enjoys being visible on the shop floor, working closely with teams, making daily operational decisions and driving projects and improvements - rather than being sat behind a desk all day.

Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement are key priorities for the site, so a strong understanding of Lean / CI principles is essential. A Six Sigma qualification or similar would be highly advantageous.

You don't need to have worked as a CNC operator, but you must have previous management or supervisory experience within a precision engineering / CNC manufacturing environment.
