WAGSTAFF INC in Nottinghamshire is seeking an experienced Production Manager to lead on-site operations at their precision engineering site. You will manage a team of around 70, drive Lean and Continuous Improvement, and work closely with the Site Manager on daily operational decisions.

This hands-on role requires visibility on the shop floor, a strong focus on quality, delivery, cost and safety targets, and the ability to optimise machine utilisation while fostering TPM and cross-functional

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in production management within precision engineering.
  • Experience managing CNC/manufacturing teams.
  • 5+ years of people management.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean, CI, quality, and safety.
  • Engineering/manufacturing degree advantageous.
  • Six Sigma certification advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility for production performance, ensuring quality, delivery, cost and safety targets are achieved.
  • Set and monitor production goals and performance expectations.
  • Maximise machine utilisation and promote a strong TPM culture.
  • Drive Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Manage production cost centres and identify cost reduction opportunities.
  • Ensure effective communication and collaboration across Production and other departments.
  • Work closely with Supply Chain on Make vs Buy decisions.
  • Support the introduction of new technologies, working with global teams where required.
  • Conduct appraisals and develop talent across the production team.

Job Description

Great career opportunity for an experienced Production Manager / Manufacturing Manager to join a successful global company at their manufacturing site in South Nottingham, operating within the precision engineering sector. As Production Manager, you will have responsibility for all production areas on site, managing a team of approximately 70 people and work with the overall Site Manager. This is a genuinely hands-on Production Manager role. The company is looking for someone who enjoys being visible on the shop floor, working closely with teams, making daily operational decisions and driving projects and improvements - rather than being sat behind a desk all day. Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement are key priorities for the site, so a strong understanding of Lean / CI principles is essential. A Six Sigma qualification or similar would be highly advantageous. You don't need to have worked as a CNC operator, but you must have previous management or supervisory experience within a precision engineering / CNC manufacturing environment.

Experience Required
  • Proven experience as a Production Manager, Manufacturing Manager or Production Supervisor within precision engineering.
  • Experience managing teams in a CNC / precision manufacturing environment.
  • 5+ years' people management experience.
  • Strong understanding of production planning, quality, engineering, Lean, finance, HR and IT.
  • Practical experience of Continuous Improvement / Lean Manufacturing.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Engineering / Manufacturing degree advantageous but not essential.
  • Six Sigma qualification advantageous.
