First Military Recruitment is proudly working in partnership with a fantastic business who are looking to recruit a Production Manager on a permanent basis due to growth located at their Oakham (Leicestershire) depot.

We are seeking an experienced, results-driven Manager to oversee the daily operations of our clients production facility. The Manager will be responsible for managing production efficiency, ensuring quality, leading a small team of circa 15 employees, and upholding safety and regulatory compliance standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, attention to detail as stock ordering will be a crucial part of this role and commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence.

This is a hands-on management role within a manufacturing environment. May require working extended hours and occasional weekends based on production needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and coordinate daily operations, including mixing, grinding, pelleting, and bagging to meet production schedules and customer demand.
  • Supervise and develop a team of operators, maintenance personnel, and support staff. Promote a positive, safe, and productive work environment.
  • Ensure all production meets quality standards, specifications, and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with quality assurance and nutrition teams for formulation accuracy.
  • Oversee the upkeep of mill equipment and machinery. Implement preventative maintenance programs and coordinate repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Monitor and manage raw materials. Ensure timely ordering and usage of ingredients to optimize production and reduce waste.
  • Enforce safety protocols, conduct regular safety training, and ensure compliance with OSHA, FDA, and other relevant regulations.
  • Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs), such as production efficiency, downtime, and yield. Use data to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Assist in budgeting and cost control efforts by managing labour, materials, and maintenance costs effectively.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in leadership role, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Strong knowledge of production processes, safety standards, and regulatory requirements is highly desirable
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to analyse production data and implement process improvements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Mechanical aptitude and understanding would be highly advantageous.
