Job description

We are looking for a Production Manager to join Thames Water permanently.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Swindon Water Production area to ensure its robust and safe operation 24/7. You will also influence the future by identifying risks and investment needs, working with internal teams to deliver solutions within the right timescales.

Our overarching plan is to provide our customers with a continuous supply of safe, clean, and palatable drinking water by focusing on five key priorities: our people, health & safety, water quality, risk & resilience, and efficiency.

This is a diverse and fast-paced role where no two days will be the same. It offers a fantastic opportunity to think differently about how we ensure the reliability and resilience of our assets, develop our people, and drive a sustainable operating model. Collaboration and stakeholder engagement are key to this role, both within and outside of Water Production.

  • Once fully trained, you will participate in an out-of-hours rota covering emergencies in the Swindon and Cotswolds area, for which you will receive additional payment.
  • Location: Latton WTW, GL7 5QF
  • 36 hours per week, Monday–Friday
  • Salary up to £53,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience, plus a car allowance.
Responsibilities of the Production Manager
  • Meet the production plan by ensuring asset availability and collaborating with systems optimisation, water quality, and technical teams.
  • Monitor, report, and act on KPIs related to asset reliability, team performance, and sustainable operation.
  • Lead a collaborative team, promote performance, and foster a strong health and safety culture.
  • Ensure the team has the capacity, capability, and confidence to perform their tasks.
  • Implement robust performance management and active development plans, including succession planning.
  • Deliver to budget and meet efficiency targets.
  • Identify risks and ensure resilience across sites and teams.
  • Liaise with senior stakeholders and operational teams to address asset failures, water quality issues, and supply-demand challenges.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and efficiency projects.
  • Manage team performance, coaching, and training to maximise potential.
  • Maintain legal compliance and act as Controller of Premises for the Swindon area.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Operational process management experience.
  • Knowledge of water or waste treatment processes.
  • Strong leadership and performance management skills.
  • Passion for driving positive behaviours.
  • Experience managing H&S in an industrial environment; NEBOSH or IOSH qualification is desirable.
  • Excellent organisational, time management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to influence senior leaders and engage stakeholders.
  • Strong computer skills are desirable.
  • A valid UK driving licence is required.
Benefits
  • Salary up to £53,000, depending on skills and experience.
  • 26 days annual leave, increasing to 30 with service, plus bank holidays.
  • Car allowance.
  • Generous paternity and maternity leave policies.
  • Performance development reviews and a benefits scheme supporting wellbeing.
