At Sulzer Birmingham, you’ll lead operations at one of the UK’s most advanced rotating equipment service centres. Officially opened by His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent in October 2021, our purpose-built site is a true benchmark in the industry — designed to set the standard with the latest in servicing technology. With a 50-tonne crane capacity, advanced balancing capabilities, high-spec machining bays, and seamless digital workflows, we’re proud to be pushing the boundaries of what's possible in engineered repairs. Join a high-performing team, driven by innovation, sustainability, and continuous improvement.

Your main tasks and responsibilities:

  1. Lead all operational activities within the Birmingham Service Centre to deliver on-time, in-full and within budget.
  2. Develop robust production planning to align labour, capacity and customer delivery expectations.
  3. Promote a culture of continuous improvement through Lean initiatives such as 5S, Kaizen and Value Stream Mapping.
  4. Manage cost control including headcount, utilisation and overtime within agreed budgets.
  5. Develop and mentor a high-performing team aligned with Sulzer values, with clear succession planning and people development focus.

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  1. Proven experience in managing production or manufacturing operations.
  2. Services aftermarket experience within the rotating equipment sector (motors, pumps, generators).
  3. Apprenticeship in engineering (or equivalent), with IOSH Health & Safety for Managers.
  4. Strong leadership, communication and decision-making skills with the ability to influence across levels.
  5. Demonstrated success in driving operational change and implementing Lean/CI initiatives.
  6. Commercially astute, with a track record of delivering improvements in cost, quality, and delivery performance.

What we offer you:

  1. A competitive basic salary
  2. Personal bonus scheme, paid annually based on company and personal performance
  3. 33 days of annual leave
  4. Defined pension contribution
  5. Confidential support through our Employee Assistance Programmes
  6. Access to a wide range of discounts on everyday shopping, entertainment, and lifestyle
  7. Opportunity to apply for a Costco membership for exclusive offers
  8. Discounted personal car leasing available for you, your family, and friends
  9. Long Service Awards to celebrate employee longevity
  10. Continuous learning and development through Sulzer Learning Pathways
  11. Free on-site parking and strong transport links to M6/M42
