Production Manager - Full Time - Birmingham, United Kingdom

At Sulzer Birmingham, you’ll lead operations at one of the UK’s most advanced rotating equipment service centres. Officially opened by His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent in October 2021, our purpose-built site is a benchmark in the industry — designed with the latest servicing technology, including a 50-tonne crane, advanced balancing capabilities, high-spec machining bays, and seamless digital workflows. Your Main Tasks and Responsibilities
  1. Lead all operational activities within the Birmingham Service Centre to ensure on-time, in-full delivery within budget.
  2. Develop robust production planning to align labour, capacity, and customer delivery expectations.
  3. Promote a culture of continuous improvement through Lean initiatives such as 5S, Kaizen, and Value Stream Mapping.
  4. Manage cost control including headcount, utilisation, and overtime within agreed budgets.
  5. Develop and mentor a high-performing team aligned with Sulzer values, with clear succession planning and focus on people development.
To Succeed in This Role, You Will Need
  • Proven experience managing production or manufacturing operations.
  • Experience in the services aftermarket within the rotating equipment sector (motors, pumps, generators).
  • Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualification, with IOSH Health & Safety for Managers.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Successful track record in driving operational change and implementing Lean/Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Commercial awareness with a history of improving cost, quality, and delivery performance.
