General Description:
The Production Machine Operator L1 shall work to ensure all actions reflect the company culture, work meets or exceeds company standards, and values and working environment reflect that as outlined by the Mill Manager. The Production Machine Operator L1 will primarily operate the Debarker and could potentially operate Drills or the Stack track machine (where applicable), stack and tag lumber, and will be responsible for keeping the machine areas clean at all times. The Production Machine Operator L1 will operate in a way that is efficient and productive while supporting the safety mission and standards as outlined at Kennebec Lumber Company.
Responsibilities:
- Operate designated machine per SOP guidelines.
- Operate lug loaders and position lumber to optimize machine efficiency.
- Oversee machine operation and flow of various lumber handling systems.
- Operate Automatic Lumber Stacker and affix tags onto finished packs of lumber.
- Strap packs/bundles of lumber with a strapping device.
- Maintain facility in a clean, professional condition.
- Maintain good working relationships with all co-workers and management, following up as needed on recommendations and/or citations.
- Participate in, motivate, support, and implement on-site safety practices and culture.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Safety Requirements:

- Steel or safety toe footwear is required in all areas.
- Gloves are required in designated areas, per task.
- Hearing protection is required in all areas (except inside the cab of outside machine forklifts).
- Eye protection is required in all areas.
- Pedeestrian awareness at all times.
- Fluorescent vests and hard hats are required for all outside activities (except pedestrian travel from one building to another).
- Never walk through any overhead door that is controlled remotely; always use the access door next to the overhead.
- Familiarize yourself with the various work areas, operate conveyor belts, and know emergency stop buttons.
- Be aware of potential pinch points in your area.
Physical Requirements:
- Bend, stretch, and twist multiple times daily.
- Perform moderate to heavy wrist and hand repetitions.
- Stand for long periods.
- Work swiftly and accurately.
- Lift up to 50 lbs.
- Push and pull up to 25 lbs.
- Climb, ascend, and descend stairs frequently.
- No allergies to sawdust or airborne particles (respiratory concerns).
- Work in all weather conditions (below 0°F to over 90°F).
