Job summary

Babcock is seeking a Production Hub Manager at Devonport Royal Dockyard to lead the welding hub, centralise resources and build a high-performing team for submarine projects.

You will chair planning meetings, drive productivity and cost-saving initiatives, collaborate with capability managers, and ensure safety, quality and performance standards are met while developing the workforce for future national security programs.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Production Capability Managers on workforce competence, skills development and succession planning.
• Provide visible leadership across operations, ensuring safety, quality, and performance standards.

The role

As a Production Hub Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in supporting one of the UK's most important submarine programmes by bringing welding resource together into a centralised, high-performing team. This is an exciting opportunity to establish and shape a new operational model, lead a skilled workforce, and drive meaningful improvements in productivity, quality, and performance.

Day-to-day, you’ll provide visible leadership across production operations, ensuring the right resources are deployed at the right time to support critical defence programmes. Working closely with production teams, project stakeholders, and capability leaders, you'll influence strategic decision-making while helping to develop and grow the workforce of the future. This role offers the chance to make a lasting impact on national security, operational excellence, and your own career development.

• Leading and managing the daily operations of the welding hub to ensure resources are effectively deployed across submarine projects.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Essential experience of the Production Hub Manager

• Experience leading and managing operational teams within a manufacturing, engineering, production, defence, marine, nuclear, or industrial environment.
• Proven ability to coordinate resources and priorities across multiple stakeholders and projects.
• Experience driving performance improvement, productivity, and operational efficiency initiatives.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop, motivate, and support teams with varying levels of experience.
• Experience working within safety and quality-focused environments.

Qualifications for the Production Hub Manager

• Higher National Certificate (HNC) in an engineering, manufacturing, production, or related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Additional leadership, operational management, or engineering qualifications.
