Job summary

Teledyne Technologies Incorporated in the UK Chelmsford is seeking a Production Engineer for Electronics to support operating performance and major product projects, from design through to production and post-sales support. Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot on the line and perform root-cause analysis to identify issues.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and supply teams to implement corrective actions.
  • Create and update SOPs and work instructions for Operations.
  • Develop process improvement plans and perform risk assessments.
  • Support NPI and lifecycle management of components and tools.
  • Control changes from concept to production acceptance, including permits and SWIs.
  • Assist with pre-production parts and assemblies for project teams.
  • Support safety via COSHH risk assessments and a rigorous safety culture.

The team provides full product lifecycle support including prototype design & build, development and integration of processes and build documentation, and full production build through to post sales/field support for both new & existing product portfolios.**Main Accountabilities**:Problem solving on the line – component level fault finding to structured analysis to identify longer term production and performance issues* Work with manufacturing and supply teams on all issues and problems of a technical nature, driving these to full root cause with sustainable corrective actions in place.* Investigate document and report faults with customer owned products. Implementing improvements to solve documented faults.* At all points during production process give manufacturing technical input.* Challenge conventions in order to ensure continuous improvements, especially with regard to manufacturing cost and ease of manufacture.Manufacturing process development and analysis* Assist manufacturing in creating balanced lines with the flexibility to change dependant on the production requirements.* Review, update, write and clear and concise work instructions (SOP’s) for use by the Operations area.* Create and update configuration control documents and all product manufacturing standard times.* Write and review process FMEA & control plans and complete Risk Assessments, close the loop on identified actions.* Develop mid to long range improvement plans for both product and process, working with the relevant stakeholdersSupport New Product Development* Involvement in the analysis of new and existing designs to ensure DFM & DFA criteria is met.* Manage the required activities through the relevant phase deliverable gate of the NPI process working with the BU Engineering and Project teams.* Understand the lifecycle of all component types, their sources and lead-times.Manufacturing control – managing change process and product* Plan and control the execution of manufacturing change from concept to production acceptance for process improvements and trials through permits, concessions, SWI’s etc.* Control the introduction of new parts and tools into the manufacturing environment.* To assist with the supply of pre-production parts and assemblies to the Project teams.Safety* Supports production with risk, COSHH assessment acting as subject matter expert for the product, components, assembly, and test processes. Supports a rigorous safety culture.Support Sales with the preparation of data for customer and project bids.**Essential Experience/Competencies**General* Demonstrable experience in an engineering function in support of electronics manufacturing.* A minimum of 5 years’ experience in electronics test and manufacturing engineering.* Good communication skills that can sell and influence to a range of audiences internally and externally with the ability to work with all levels of the business.* Working knowledge of mechanical manufacturing philosophies, i.e. DFM/DFA* A working knowledge of electrical and mechanical assembly, manufacturing and test* An ability to produce concise reports and effective presentations.* Must be able to demonstrate a high level of self-motivation and creativity.* An independent thinker and able to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplined team to tight deadlines.* Strong analytical skills.Technical* Electronics knowledge including fault finding to component level* Knowledge of electrical and RF test techniques would be beneficial.* Knowledge of High Voltage electronics and encapsulation* Problem solving experience (8D, A3, Root Cause Analysis etc.)* Understanding of SPC data and calculationsSecurityCapable of obtaining SC – Security Clearance**Desired Experience/Competencies**ERP / SAP Systems experienceExperience in implementing product safety risk assessments and application of required mitigation activitiesCI, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma methodology, Quality toolset experience.**Desired Qualifications**Relevant manufacturing/engineering degree or equivalent qualificationTeledyne and all of our employees are committed to conducting business with the highest ethical standards.
