Production Engineer - Martin Audio

Based: High Wycombe

Term: Permanent, Full time

The Production Engineer Role:

We are seeking an experienced Production Engineer to play a key role in supporting the manufacture and continuous improvement of high-performance audio products. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Production Engineer will contribute across a range of group audio reproduction brands, including Martin Audio, Optimal Audio, Linea Research, TiMax, and OutBoard Motor Control. The role focuses on the successful introduction of new products into production, the sustainment of current manufacturing processes, plus the implementation of design and process improvements that enhance efficiency, quality,and cost-effectiveness.

The ideal candidate will bring strong 3D CAD skills, a solid understanding of design for manufacture and hands-on experience with various production methods including woodworking, metal fabrication and injection moulding. A practical mindset, attention to detail and a thorough understanding of manufacturing workflows are essential. Experience with change management, ERP and PLM systems and workshop-based problem-solving is also required.

Skills required:

  • 3D CAD proficiency and creation of 2D drawings Interpretation of 2D drawings
  • A good understanding of design for manufacture
  • A thorough understanding of manufacturing processes and their benefits and limitations, including wooden cabinets, metal fabrication and injection moulding
  • The ability to focus on the details that are important to the customer and the safety of the product
  • Practical workshop skills
  • Working knowledge of change management processes
  • Proven experience of using PLM's and manufacturing ERP's

Duties of the Production Engineer:

New product introduction:

  • Plan production workflows, space requirements and equipment layout
  • Design jigs, fixtures and tooling for assembly tasks
  • Generate production documentation (e.g. assembly instructions)
  • Organise and run pilot builds to identify and resolve issues prior to full-scale production
  • Inspect and review pilot builds, including those from contract manufacturers, ensuring work instructions are accurate

Change management:

  • Investigate production or customer-reported issues and propose corrective actions
  • Support the Change Management Team in implementing those actions
  • Implement changes on the production line and update relevant documentation (e.g. SOPs)

Sustain the production of existing products:

  • Support part resourcing and validation with alternate suppliers
  • Drive continuous improvement of production tools, methods and working practice

Secondary Functions:

  • Provide input during the design phase to ensure products are optimised for manufacture and assembly
  • Visit UK and overseas suppliers to discuss new product requirements, manufacturing feasibility and achievable tolerances
  • Support communication of project timelines, material deliveries, key deadlines and work/purchase orders to the wider team
  • Assist with maintenance of ERP master data and item records and support BOM accuracy and updates in PLM and ERP systems as needed

Experience required:

  • A degree in Production Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering or an associated discipline
  • Certification in Lean Six Sigma methodologies
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to propose practical, well-engineered solutions
  • Proficiency in a professional 3D CAD package such as Creo Parametric
  • Able to construct and interpret 3D solid models and 2D engineering drawings with correct tolerancing and dimensioning
  • Good working knowledge of manufacturing processes including woodwork, metal fabrication and injection moulding
  • Practical workshop and basic machining skills; physically able to handle assembly tasks in line with H&S requirements
  • Familiarity with PLM systems for document control and change management
  • Experience working with ERP systems, including parts and assemblies - BOM creation experience is beneficial, but not essential

Job Conditions:

Martin Audio UK is situated in High Wycombe, with this site including Factory Production, Research & Development, Marketing, Sales, Service, Sourcing, and Central Functions url removed .

This is a full-time position of 37.5 hours per week over the standard working hours of 8.45am to 5.30pm Monday to Thursday and 8.45am to 4pm on Friday. An hour is allowed for lunch Monday to Thursday and 45 minutes on Friday.
