Job summary

Qualifications

Main responsibilities and tasks

  • Identify health and safety risks and ensure that the plant and equipment are maintained in a safe working order and that safe working practices are followed at all times.
  • Inform the Engineering Supervisor or the Production Supervisor of any relevant issues related to quality, safety, and maintenance.
  • Work professionally, complying at all times with company policies on safety, hygiene, and housekeeping.
  • Monitor the performance of plant and equipment, carrying out adjustments and maintenance to meet quality and efficiency standards.
  • Perform maintenance on plant and equipment to improve reliability, reduce downtime, and address machine-induced quality issues, including mechanical and electrical work.
  • Accurately complete all maintenance documentation and submit it to the appropriate personnel.
  • Identify and rectify machine faults (mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic).
  • Attend to machine breakdowns promptly and prioritize work with the Production Supervisor/Manager to minimize downtime.
  • Assist with the installation and implementation of machine improvements and projects.
  • Be available for overtime and callouts when required.
  • Assist in developing preventive maintenance systems for electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Engineering Supervisor.

Education & Skills

  • A recognized technical degree or minimum HNC/HND qualification in Engineering, Electrical Automation.
  • An apprenticeship is advantageous but not essential.
  • Experience in plastics manufacturing, especially blow molding, is highly advantageous.
  • Understanding of ladder logic and fault diagnostics is essential.
  • Knowledge of operating drive systems and platforms such as Fanuc, Siemens, Okuma, Toyoda, PLCs including Allen Bradley, Siemens 7 Krupp.
  • Electrical and mechanical engineering expertise.
  • Hydraulics and pneumatics experience is advantageous but not essential.
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Fault-finding techniques.
  • Proven technical knowledge and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to use electrical troubleshooting equipment.
  • Understanding of modern maintenance techniques, technologies, and systems.
  • Understanding of CMMS operating systems and development is essential.
