Main responsibilities and tasks
- Identify health and safety risks and ensure that the plant and equipment are maintained in a safe working order, following safe practices at all times.
- Inform the Engineering Supervisor or the Production Supervisor of any issues related to quality, safety, and maintenance.
- Work professionally, complying with company policies on safety, hygiene, and housekeeping.
- Monitor plant and equipment performance, making adjustments and maintenance to meet quality and efficiency standards.
- Perform maintenance on plant and equipment to improve reliability, reduce downtime, and address machine-induced quality issues, including mechanical and electrical work.
- Accurately complete maintenance documentation and submit it to the appropriate personnel.
- Identify and rectify machine faults (mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic).
- Attend to machine breakdowns promptly and collaborate with supervisors to prioritize work, minimizing downtime.
- Assist with the installation and implementation of machine improvements and projects.
- Be available for overtime and callouts as needed.
- Support the development of preventive maintenance systems for electrical and mechanical systems.
- Perform other duties as directed by the Engineering Supervisor.
Education & Skills
- A recognized technical degree or minimum HNC/HND qualification in Engineering, Electrical Automation.
- An apprenticeship is advantageous but not essential.
- Experience in plastics manufacturing, especially blow moulding, is a plus.
- Understanding of ladder logic and fault diagnostics is essential.
- Working knowledge of drive systems and platforms such as Fanuc, Siemens, Okuma, Toyoda, PLCs including Allen Bradley and Siemens 7 Krupp.
- Knowledge of electrical and mechanical engineering principles.
- Hydraulics and pneumatics knowledge is advantageous but not essential.
- Experience with preventative maintenance procedures.
- Fault finding techniques.
- Proven technical troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to use electrical troubleshooting equipment.
- Understanding of modern maintenance techniques, technologies, and systems.
- Familiarity with CMMS operating systems and development is essential.
