Job summary

QinetiQ in Farnborough is seeking a Production / Electromechanical Build Technician to help bring next‑generation products from concept to reality. The Role

As a Production / Electromechanical Build Technician, you’ll play a key role in bringing cutting-edge products from concept to reality, ensuring high-quality assemblies are built, tested, and delivered to support the development of state-of-the-art technology solutions.

Day-to-day, you’ll manufacture, assemble, inspect, and test a wide range of mechanical, electrical, and electronic products, working from engineering drawings, specifications, and production documentation.

You’ll be responsible for wiring, soldering, cable assembly, equipment operation, quality inspections, and maintaining accurate production records, while ensuring all work is completed to the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.

Working on innovative, next‑generation products, you’ll have the chance to contribute to New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, support prototype and trial builds, and collaborate closely with engineers and technical specialists as new manufacturing capabilities are established.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) activities and trial manufacturing builds
  • Ensuring compliance with quality standards, ESD requirements, and manufacturing procedures
  • Maintaining accurate production records, manufacturing data, and traceability documentation
  • Assisting with the setup and adjustment of production equipment and workstations for new or modified products
  • Following production schedules to meet quality, delivery, and productivity targets
  • Interpreting engineering drawings, work instructions, and electronic production systems to complete assemblies accurately
Essential experience of the Production / Electromechanical Build Technician:
  • Ability to manufacture assemblies to specification using engineering drawings, procedures, and electronic production systems with minimal supervision
  • Experience with mechanical, electrical, and electronic component installation and wiring
  • Proficiency in the use of torque drivers, torque analysers, multipliers, and general assembly hand tools
  • Knowledge of ESD handling procedures and controls
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership of tasks, and manage priorities effectively
  • Experience managing production documentation and working within revision‑controlled processes
Essential qualifications for the Production / Electromechanical Build Technician:
  • A Levels, BTEC, NVQ, apprenticeship, or equivalent technical qualification in Manufacturing, Engineering, Electronics, or a related discipline
  • Vocational or technical training in mechanical, electrical, electronic, or electro‑mechanical assembly
  • Demonstrable experience building mechanical, electrical, or electronic assemblies and working from engineering drawings and specifications
  • Experience carrying out assembly inspections and quality checks within a manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity with computer‑controlled production systems, manufacturing software, and production documentation
  • Knowledge of revision‑controlled processes and manufacturing best practices
