Job description

As Production Editorial Manager, you will be managing a team responsible for the content production of learning and teaching resources for English Language Teaching products. You will be ensuring that content is on time, on budget, and to agreed quality standards. You will be part of the central Content Delivery management team, within Publishing and Content Operations, working together to effectively coordinate, plan, and quality assure the activities of the production editorial teams and outsourcing partners.

You will enable and empower your team to respond to changing requirements for our products and markets and collaborate with project teams to drive efficiencies and work to align and centralize processes, systems, and data.

Key Accountabilities
  • Management of a team of Senior Production Editors and Production Editors.
  • Ensuring that editorial quality standards are met by the team and our suppliers.
  • Planning resources and allocating workload.
  • Monitoring the work in progress on all projects managed by the team.
  • Working with our Outsourced Services team to manage suppliers and create budgets.
  • Ensure processes and workflows are implemented effectively.
  • Support the team and our suppliers by enabling knowledge sharing through training and documented guidelines.

We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office.

About You
Skills and Knowledge
  • Significant experience of managing production editorial work for educational publishing, including copyediting, proofreading, and other related tasks.
  • Significant experience of managing freelancers and suppliers delivering production editorial work for both print and digital products.
  • Experience of reviewing, improving and implementing processes.
  • Demonstrated potential to line manage via coaching, mentoring or leading others (line management experience preferred).
  • Excellent technical knowledge of editorial tools used, including complex MS Word style sheets, PDF markup and authoring tools for interactive content.
Additional Skills and Experience
  • Understanding of content structures and XML standards.
  • Knowledge and experience of the ELT market.
  • Working knowledge of Spanish, Italian, Polish or another foreign language relevant to the ELT market.
  • Experience of working in publishing or a similar industry in a relevant role.
  • Experience of working in a matrix organisation.
