Job summary

Severfield is seeking a Production Director who will lead and oversee all aspects of production operations. This role requires strong leadership and extensive experience in manufacturing, focusing on operational efficiency, safety, and quality standards. The ideal candidate will have a degree in engineering or equivalent experience, coupled with leadership capabilities in a heavy manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in a similar role within the manufacturing or steel fabrication industry.
  • Strong knowledge of fabrication processes including cutting, welding, forming, and finishing.
  • Certification in Lean, Six Sigma, or Project Management is highly desirable.

In the Production Director position you will lead and oversee all aspects of production operations, as well as being responsible for ensuring efficient, cost-effective manufacturing while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and delivery. Responsible for approximately 400 plus people across.

Other responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Leading and managing the daily operations of the production department such as planning, fabrication, welding, machining, painting, stock yard management and loading.
  • Developing and implementing strategies to meet production targets, improve operational efficiency, and reduce costs.
  • Ensuring that all production activities meet quality standards, project specifications, and customer expectations.
  • Collaborating with NPI, Design, Quality, Procurement, Operational functions and Finance to ensure seamless workflow and project execution.
  • Maintaining and promoting a safe and compliant work environment by enforcing health and safety regulations and company policies.
  • Ensuring that the Production management teams are recruiting, training, and undertaking performance management of production colleagues.
  • Analysing production data and KPIs to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective/improvement actions.
  • Managing the department budget, monitor expenditures, and ensure resource optimisation.
  • Contributing and leading the implementation of our continuous improvement program, including lean manufacturing.

Key Skills & experience

The ideal candidate have extensive experience in a similar role within manufacturing or steel fabrication industry. And will bring strong leadership, strategic planning, and operational expertise to drive productivity and continuous improvement across the manufacturing site.

  • Ideally either Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Industrial Management, or a related field, or extensive experience in heavy manufacturing or steel fabrication industry with demonstratable experience as a senior leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of fabrication processes including cutting, welding, forming, and finishing.
  • Demonstrated expertise in production planning, workflow optimisation, and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Exceptional leadership, decision-making, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and production management software.
  • Familiarity with quality assurance standards (e.g., ISO 9001, AWS, ASME).
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Certification in Lean, Six Sigma, or Project Management is highly desirable.
