Job Title: Product System Design Engineer - Composite Fan System

Employment Type: Full-Time

Locations: Derby or Bristol - Hybrid (3 days a week on site)

What you will be doing

We have exciting opportunities for Product System Design Engineers to join the Global Mechanical Systems Capability team in Derby or Bristol. The Product System Design Engineer will create engineering solutions that satisfy functional and physical requirements of the Product System environment to meet system-level requirements and provide appropriate requirements for component-level design. Preliminary component design and integration into the system architecture are key responsibilities.

The main focus of the role is the design and integration of composite components into the Fan Product System and the integration of the product system architecture at the system level.

Responsibilities
  • Design of composite fan system architecture and components, including fan blades, fan cases, and outlet guide vanes, up to APQP preliminary design review level.
  • Support integration to critical design reviews.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver advanced compression system designs.
  • Generate innovative design concepts using systems engineering techniques to meet customer requirements.
  • Conduct design studies to optimize cost, weight, and performance.
  • Perform failure mode analysis on product systems.
  • Facilitate agreement on complex geometric and functional interfaces among stakeholders.
  • Work with Validation Engineering on certification strategies and modifications standardization.
  • Elicit, validate, and communicate product system requirements to stakeholders.
Candidate Profile
  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of low-temperature composite materials, design tools, and manufacturing methods.
  • Understanding of gas turbine functionality, particularly compression systems.
  • Experience with change management processes like AS9145/APQP, failure mode analysis, and safety hazard processes.
  • Familiarity with materials, manufacturing, and assembly techniques.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • CAD experience, preferably NX and Teamcenter.
  • Knowledge of analysis methods (stress, impact, aerodynamics) is desirable.
  • Experience in model-based systems engineering is a plus.
  • Proven track record with at least 3 years in composite component design within aerospace or equivalent industry.
