Job summary

SEA in the United Kingdom is seeking a Product Safety Engineer to lead safety activities across the engineering lifecycle, from concept to disposal, ensuring compliance with safety legislation and standards.

You will develop safety cases, review designs, and provide risk-based recommendations while collaborating with systems, mechanical, electrical, software, and manufacturing teams. The role offers hybrid working with travel to Barnstaple and Bristol sites.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to identify hazards and assess safety risks.
• Experience producing safety documentation and technical reports.
• Knowledge of safety engineering techniques (FMEA, FTA, HAZID/HAZOP).
• Strong written and verbal communication for technical/stakeholder audiences.
• Structured, analytical approach with attention to detail.
• EngTech/IEng/CEng registration desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support product safety activities across the full engineering lifecycle.
• Identify hazards, assess product safety risks, and define risk reductions.
• Develop and maintain safety documentation such as hazard logs and safety plans.
• Work with cross-functional teams to ensure safety requirements are understood, verified, and traceable.
• Review designs and change proposals to confirm safety risks remain acceptable.
• Support verification, certification, and compliance activities.
• Provide product safety advice to project teams, suppliers, and customers.
• Monitor legislation and standards, translating changes into actions.
