Job summary

CBSbutler is supporting a world-leading engineering organisation delivering advanced propulsion technology for defence. We are seeking a Product Safety Engineer to influence safety from concept through to in-service support, working with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safety, compliance and technical integrity across complex products.

You will lead safety activities, develop management plans and deliver robust safety programmes, with opportunities to progress to Lead Product Safety Engineer

Qualifications

• Experience in Product Safety or System Safety within a regulated engineering environment.
• Experience producing Safety Cases and Safety Management Plans.
• Knowledge of hazard identification techniques (FMEA/FTA).
• Strong communication skills to influence multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

We're supporting a world-leading engineering organisation developing advanced propulsion technology for defence applications, and they're looking for a Product Safety Engineer to join their growing Engineering team.

This is an opportunity to influence product safety from concept through to in-service support, working alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure complex products meet the highest standards of safety, compliance and technical integrity.

What you'll be doing

• Leading product safety activities across the full engineering lifecycle, from concept and development through to production and in-service support.
• Developing Product Safety Management Plans and delivering robust safety programmes.
• Facilitating hazard identification and risk analysis activities using recognised techniques such as FMEA and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).
• Producing high-quality Safety Case reports that demonstrate products are safe for their intended use.
• Working closely with Design, Manufacturing, Systems and Project teams to ensure safety is embedded throughout the engineering process.
• Advising internal stakeholders on safety requirements, risk reduction strategies and regulatory compliance.
• Acting as the technical focal point for product safety within multidisciplinary engineering programmes.

What we're looking for

You'll have experience within Product Safety or System Safety in a regulated engineering environment and enjoy solving complex technical challenges.

You'll likely have experience in:

• Aerospace
• Defence
• Space
• Automotive
• Nuclear
• Rail
• Other safety-critical engineering industries

You'll also bring:

• A degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Science or a related technical discipline.
• Experience producing Safety Cases and Safety Management Plans.
• Knowledge of hazard identification techniques including FMEA, FTA or similar methodologies.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to influence multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience working within regulated engineering environments.

Knowledge of defence safety standards such as Def Stan 00-56 would be advantageous but isn't essential.
