Job summary

Fortress Recruit Limited is recruiting a Product Safety and Compliance Engineer for a leading defence engineering and manufacturing organisation in Poole. You will oversee product safety, regulatory compliance and certification across a diverse portfolio of defence products.

You will collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing and Project teams to ensure UK and international regulatory requirements are met throughout the product lifecycle, driving safety and continuous improvement

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Safety or a related discipline.
• Significant experience in Product Safety, Compliance, Systems Safety or Safety Engineering.
• Experience in defence, aerospace, marine or other highly regulated environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead product safety and compliance activities across defence programmes.
• Develop and review safety cases, hazard analyses and risk assessments.
• Interpret defence and international standards (DEF STAN, IEC, ATEX, IECEx, CE/UKCA).
• Prepare technical files, declarations of conformity and regulatory submissions.
• Manage product certification programmes and lifecycle approvals.
• Plan and lead internal audits and support external assessments.
• Act as technical contact for customers, regulators and third party bodies.
• Monitor legislation changes and assess impact on products.
• Support corrective actions from root cause investigations.
• Develop compliance processes and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Prepare compliance reports and risk registers for senior management.

Job description

Fortress Recruit are now looking for a Product Safety and Compliance Engineer on behalf of a leading defence engineering and manufacturing organisation based in Poole.

As Product Safety and Compliance Engineer, you will be responsible for product safety, regulatory compliance and certification activities across a diverse portfolio of complex defence products. Working closely with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Project teams, you will ensure products meet UK and international regulatory requirements throughout the full product lifecycle, whilst driving a culture of safety, compliance and continuous improvement across the business.

Key responsibilities:

• Lead product safety and compliance activities across multiple defence engineering programmes
• Develop, maintain and review safety cases, hazard analyses, risk assessments and safety management plans
• Interpret and apply relevant defence and international standards including DEF STAN, IEC, ATEX, IECEx, CE, UKCA, REACH and RoHS
• Prepare and maintain technical files, declarations of conformity and regulatory submissions
• Manage product certification programmes, type approvals and product approval lifecycles
• Plan and lead internal compliance audits and support external customer, regulatory and certification body assessments
• Act as the technical point of contact for customers, regulators and third party approval bodies on all product safety and compliance matters
• Monitor changes to legislation and industry standards, assessing the impact on products and engineering activities
• Support root cause investigations and ensure compliance related corrective actions are implemented
• Develop compliance processes, training and continuous improvement initiatives across the organisation
• Prepare compliance reports, safety dashboards and risk registers for senior management

To be successful, you’ll have:

• A Degree or similar in Engineering, Safety or a related discipline
• Significant experience within Product Safety, Compliance, Systems Safety or Safety Engineering
• Previous experience within defence, aerospace, marine or another highly regulated engineering environment
• Strong knowledge of safety engineering principles, hazard analysis and safety case development
• Experience working with defence standards and regulatory compliance frameworks
• Knowledge of standards such as DEF STAN, IEC 61508, IEC 61511, MIL STD, ATEX, IECEx, REACH, RoHS and CE or UKCA marking
• Experience supporting product certification and working with external regulators or certification bodies
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills with the ability to influence across all levels of the business
• Eligibility for SC clearance (5 years UK residency without visa or sponsorship requirement)
