Role: Product Safety Engineer

Sector: Defence

Location: Sheffield, South Yorkshire

Job Type: Permanent

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Safety Engineer to enhance safety standards in the design and delivery of advanced maritime products. The role involves shaping safety strategies from concept to lifecycle support, ensuring engineering teams embed robust safety standards at every development phase.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead product safety for complex maritime systems from design to delivery.
  2. Ensure safety is integrated at every stage of the lifecycle.
  3. Guide teams on safety compliance with legislation and customer standards.
  4. Manage and maintain safety management systems and documentation.
  5. Deliver risk assessments, safety cases, and technical reports.
  6. Collaborate across teams to resolve safety issues and improve processes.

Requirements:

  1. Strong experience in Product Safety Engineering within complex systems.
  2. Knowledge of safety standards (e.g., HASAWA, COSHH, REACH, Def Stan 00-056, BS EN 61508).
  3. Degree in Engineering, Systems, or related fields.
  4. Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards it.
  5. Member of a professional body (e.g., SaRS, IET, IMechE, SCSC).
  6. Eligible for UK Eyes Only SC Clearance.
