Overview

Product Owner – Inquiry Management Group at BNY. We are a leading global financial services company focused on enabling growth and success for employees and clients through advanced technology and responsible, innovative solutions.

We’re seeking a future team member for the role of Vice President, POM Product Owner, to join our BNY Payments Enablement Enterprise Platform team. This role is in Manchester.

Responsibilities

The Product Owner will lead the ‘Capture, Route, and Distribute’ Pod in the Inquiry Management Group. The Inquiry Management Group sits within the BNY Payments Enablement Enterprise Platform and is responsible for managing and resolving transactional inquiries across the payments lifecycle. Its scope includes operational support, client experience enhancement, and platform resiliency, with a focus on enabling seamless, compliant, and efficient inquiry resolution.

The main goal of the pod associated with this Product Owner role is to establish, enhance, and refine the channels in which inquiries are received, consumed, and sent/processed downstream. A special focus is on the MX migration relating to ISO20022, while optimizing operations and client experience by providing an exceptional, seamless experience for handling inquiries. This includes driving increased efficiency, fostering transparency, and ensuring reliable outcomes throughout the process while adhering to industry standards.

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or work experience equivalent
  • Extensive experience in transaction banking, with several years in a Product Owner, Product Manager, or Business Analyst role
  • Proven experience working on payment investigations or related areas such as payment processing, SWIFT messaging, or reconciliation
Domain Expertise
  • Deep understanding of how payment transactions are processed, including different rails and methods and the associated workflows
  • Deep understanding of cross-border payments, correspondent banking, and global payment schemes (e.g., SWIFT, SEPA, Fedwire, CHAPS)
  • Strong knowledge of payment investigation workflows including exceptions handling, returns, repairs, and claims
  • Familiarity with ISO 20022 and legacy messaging standards (MT messages)
  • Awareness of regulatory requirements (e.g., AML, sanctions screening, FATF, PSD2, Travel Rule, etc.)
Product Ownership & Agile Skills
  • Experience as a Product Owner in Agile/Scrum environments, with a solid grasp of Agile principles and ceremonies
  • Ability to write clear and actionable user stories, define acceptance criteria, and manage a product backlog
  • Strong stakeholder management skills — capable of balancing the needs of operations, compliance, IT, and clients
  • Experience collaborating with development teams, testers, and business SMEs to deliver high-quality solutions
Technical & Analytical Skills
  • Understanding of API integration, workflow systems, and case management tools used in transaction banking
  • Ability to analyze investigation trends and use data to inform product decisions and drive operational efficiency
  • Proficiency with tools like JIRA, Confluence, Excel, iGrafx, and data visualization tools
Soft Skills & Other Qualities
  • Strong communication and documentation skills — able to translate complex payment processes into business and technical requirements
  • High attention to detail, especially in compliance- and risk-sensitive environments
  • Strong problem-solving mindset and ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-pressure setting
  • Comfortable working in a global, cross-functional team and across different time zones
