Job description

Product Owner, Corporate Standards

Location: UK

Role Summary: A leading, global Climate Change NGO seeks a Product Owner for its flagship Corporate Net-Zero Standard, to support the development, implementation, and continuous evolution of this critical sustainability framework. The Product Owner will ensure the standard remains credible, aligned with the latest climate science, responsive to stakeholder needs, and contributes effectively to global efforts towards net-zero emissions.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee the full lifecycle of the Corporate Net-Zero Standard, including strategy formulation, development, implementation, maintenance, and updates.
  2. Act as the central point of responsibility for the standard, ensuring alignment with stakeholder expectations, regulatory developments, and scientific advancements.
  3. Lead a cross-functional team to deliver a credible, science-based framework that drives impactful corporate climate action.
  4. Engage with key internal and external stakeholders, gathering insights and ensuring standard adoption and alignment.
  5. Develop and communicate a clear strategic vision for the Corporate Net-Zero Standard in collaboration with senior leadership.
  6. Manage resources efficiently, set clear priorities, and mitigate risks to achieve project objectives.
  7. Deputise for the Head of Corporate Standards, managing staff and fostering their professional growth.
  8. Foster a collaborative, respectful, and integrity-driven organisational culture.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  1. Proven experience in standards development and translating complex scientific concepts into clear frameworks for industry professionals.
  2. At least 10 years of professional experience in sustainability, environmental management, or related fields, including senior roles with people and project management responsibilities.
  3. Strong track record in delivering high-quality outputs on time and within budget.
  4. Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  5. Demonstrated expertise in corporate sustainability, net-zero frameworks, science-based target setting, and greenhouse gas accounting.
  6. Solid experience leading cross-functional teams, including managing virtual or distributed team environments.

Desirable Skills:

  1. Knowledge of regulatory trends and requirements in climate disclosure and reporting (e.g., TCFD, CDP, GHG Protocol).
