Position

Were looking for a Mobile App Product Owner who thrives in a fast-paced, founder-led environment. Youre passionate about delivering beautifully functional mobile experiences and love the rhythm of agile product development and have the following atttributes:

  • Proven experience as a Product Owner or similar role in mobile app development.
  • Strong and demonstrable UX Design capability as appropriate for a widely used mobile app.
  • Solid understanding of agile principles and ceremonies (Scrum/Kanban preferred)
  • Familiarity with tools such as Notion, Jira, Confluence, Figma, Firebase, App Store Connect and Google Play Console
  • Comfortable using and interpreting dashboards and reports in analytics platforms such as Looker, Mixpanel, Amplitude or similar
  • The ability to work with raw data and SQL.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills. Credible, proactive and clear under pressure across a diverse range of stakeholders, internal and external.
  • Comfort operating in a start-up or scale-up environment where not everything is fully defined.
  • Confident translating vision and user needs into structured plans and prioritisation logic.
  • Strong analytical thinking, with the ability to use data to guide decisions
  • Strong teamworking skills with excellent social and emotional intelligence.

Bonus If You Have

  • Experience working on high volume consumer-facing apps with high user expectations
  • Understanding of mobile analytics architecture and tagging strategies
  • Familiarity with backend systems, APIs and mobile release processes.

Requirements

As our Mobile App Product Owner, youll take ownership of our mobile product backlog and roadmaps acting as the linchpin between our talented development team and business stakeholders, including close collaboration with the founders, leadership, users and our business functions.

Youll play a central role in ensuring our app delivers value to users while aligning with strategic our goals. Youll work in a fully functional, well-established agile team. Your focus will be on clarity, consistency, and continuous delivery. Your domain is mobile-first, so experience shipping native apps and working expertly within the nuances of mobile app stores is important.

Flexibility, and adaptability are essential and you will be required to undertake a range of tasks as may reasonably be expected in a rapidly growing and wildly successful user centred app.

What You'll Do

Own and refine the product backlog:

  • Write and prioritise clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and backlog items, maintaining a constant state of readiness for development.
  • Weekly calls with development partner to confirm alignment.
  • Raising and prioritising maintenance/support tickets with development partner.
  • Summarising feature requirements into written briefs, which our development partner can use as a starting point for a formal design process.

Champion Delivery

  • Work closely with developers and designers in regular stand-ups, reviews and retrospectives to drive continuous, high-quality releases for our users.
  • Design/spec feedback via close collaboration with our development partners, helping guide the UX&UI designs.
  • Acceptance testing/validating delivered builds.

Bridge Business And Tech

  • Act as the voice of the customer and the business, aligning user needs with founder vision and technical feasibility.
  • Listening to the recurring feedback coming through in app reviews and customer service feedback.

Engage Stakeholders

Facilitate decision-making with stakeholders through workshops, demos and clear communication of progress, trade-offs and roadmaps.

Navigate Ambiguity

Embrace changing priorities, rapidly shifting feedback and evolving business goals. Youll bring structure without rigidity.

Focus On Outcomes

Define, track and iterate against key product and business metrics including but not limited to:

  • Daily/Monthly Active Users (DAU/MAU)
  • User retention (e.g. D1, D7, D30)
  • Funnel conversion rates
  • Session length and frequency
  • Crash rates and app performance
  • App store ratings and reviews
  • Feature adoption and usage trends

Drive Mobile Excellence

  • Understand the app lifecycle end to end, from SDKs to deployment pipelines to App Store and Google Play schedules, guidelines and optimisation.
  • Competitor research - Regularly staying up-to-date with what apps in similar spaces are doing, what works, what doesnt how we can differentiate and add value to users.

Leverage Data Tools

Collaborate with marketing and social medial teams using data and analytics on platforms like Looker, Firebase, Amplitude, Mixpanel and Google Analytics for mobile. Extracting insights, monitoring KPIs, and making informed product decisions and bringing innovative ideas to the team.

  • Quantitative user research - Creating dashboards to measure success of features, exploring user behaviours.

Qualitative user research - Carrying out surveys, focus groups etc with customers, whether based on existing app functionality or prototypes/ideas of new functionality.

A competitive salary as defined above.

Paid leave

Full time staff received 25 days paid annual leave in addition to the 8 bank holidays each year.

The company also operates a holiday purchase scheme for up to 5 days a year.

Pension Scheme

The Pension scheme is with Nest; employee contribution is 5% and employer contribution is 6%

Balance provides full time employees with an allowance of £750 per annum which equates to £62.50 per month (If you work part-time, this amount is pro-rated based on your contracted hours. For example, someone working at 0.4 full-time equivalent (FTE) would receive 40% of £750, which equals £300 per year, or £25 per month)
