Title: Production Manager
Salary: Up to £60,000
Responsibilities
- Lead the Rigid Paper manufacturing function, manage the team, and drive world-class results in Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery and Team Morale.
- Meet or exceed targets set by the Plant Manager and aligned with business needs; ensure production requirements and deadlines are achieved with excellent quality and service, safely.
- Create and implement a manufacturing improvement plan and new processes; work cross-functionally with Engineering, Warehouse, CI, and other functions.
- Coach and develop the team to enable full potential and improve overall plant results.
- Utilise equipment and resources effectively, manage and optimise labour requirements, and maximise production capability.
- Analyze production data to identify losses, determine root causes with the team, implement fixes, document in standard procedures, and train teams.
- Lead and coach root cause problem solving; effectively communicate priorities and escalate issues within the area of ownership.
Qualifications
- Required: Production Manager experience with evidence of excellent results delivered
- Minimum of five years in a TPM/technical manufacturing environment
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher
- Desirable: Bachelor’s degree in an engineering-related subject (Mechanical, Electrical, Automation)
General
- Key Accountabilities: Deliver operational targets (Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Morale) across the plant; maintain professional behaviour and high shop floor appearance; stay aware of current and future shop floor priorities and communicate them to the team.
- Have strong knowledge of technical aspects of lines, quality, safety, planning, reliability, and scheduling systems; lead activities with authority.
- Proactively identify and implement improvements; develop self-sufficient teams that can address problems without direct supervision.
- Handle emergencies as needed; manage Shift Leader performance; build cross-functional relationships.
- Safety: Support safety targets, model safe behaviours, ensure rules and procedures are followed, keep the work environment clean, perform line pre-checks, raise safety issues, report near misses promptly, complete near miss investigations within 24 hours, identify and eliminate hazards, and escalate safety concerns.
- Quality: Ensure product quality meets specifications and legal requirements; support QA investigations and timely responses; maintain training and paperwork; ensure line clearances and rejects are managed properly; ensure GMP/Hygiene standards; support site visits and audits; participate in internal audits and reviews.
- Service: Define long-term run rates, develop monthly plans with planning, ensure lines run to schedule, review priorities daily/weekly, participate in weekly production alignment meetings, and coordinate downtime requests with planning.
- Performance / Costs: Define and monitor manufacturing KPIs; deliver run-rate targets safely; escalate major issues; manage changeovers and materials supply; analyse downtime and defects; drive continuous improvement through CI projects; track waste and explain gaps; identify cost-saving opportunities; ensure TPM tasks are completed and drive ongoing improvements.
- Organisation: Lead the continuous improvement journey; prepare morning meetings with analysis of losses/stops/speed reductions using SPS tools; deliver results and actions; manage vacations and sickness; plan long-term staffing; conduct disciplinaries; work with Process Engineers on technical action plans.
- Team Development: Align the team with the plant vision; communicate announcements; set objectives; develop training plans and skill matrices; ensure training at required levels and safety/quality standards; manage team performance; conduct regular performance reviews and development activities.
