Job summary

Mode, a UK-based developer of autonomous opto-chemical sensing systems, seeks a senior hands-on leader to own productisation and industrialisation of the first commercial sensor platform. You will translate MVP into a robust, compliant, manufacturable product and manage the route from prototype through validation to controlled release.

You will oversee the intersection of engineering, quality, operations and supply chain, balancing performance, reliability, cost and manufacturability.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in NPI and product industrialisation.
• Proven track record taking multidisciplinary hardware from prototype to production.
• Experience defining and managing product verification, compliance and external certification testing.
• Strong knowledge of DFM, manufacturing process development, production test, tooling and quality planning.
• Experience leading pilot builds, process validation and data-led improvements in yield, reliability, capacity or cost.
• Experience developing relationships with suppliers or transferring products and processes to manufacturing partners.
• Ability to lead cross-functional programmes, communicate risks clearly and make sound decisions with incomplete information.
• Willingness to remain hands-on with product build, test and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Own the industrialisation roadmap, development stages, release gates and production-readiness criteria
• Lead DFM, DFA, design-for-test, service and reliability activities across interfaces
• Establish a controlled product definition covering BOMs, drawings, specifications, software dependencies and manufacturing data
• Lead pilot and pre-production builds, converting results into prioritised design and process improvements
• Coordinate pre-compliance and formal testing with advisers and laboratories
• Build evidence required for UKCA or CE conformity, technical files and product labelling
• Define environmental and reliability testing for remote deployment including ingress, temp, humidity, corrosion, shock and life testing
• Mentor colleagues and help establish manufacturing practices as the company grows
