About the Role

As a Senior Scientist in the Product Development team, you will lead product development activities, including laboratory and pilot plant work, prototype production, and solving technical problems in coatings and plastics.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Ensure a safe working environment and comply with environmental safety practices.
  • Maintain laboratory and pilot plant equipment according to safety rules.
  • Research intellectual property during project concept development.
  • Mentor junior scientists.
  • Produce laboratory and pilot prototypes.
  • Address technical issues related to coatings and plastics.
  • Plan project steps with management.
  • Perform laboratory and pilot work independently, guided by the manager.
  • Conduct in-process testing on prototypes.
  • Participate in project team activities and plant trials, including travel within the UK and abroad.
  • Record, analyze, and present data, discussing implications for project progress.
  • Share ideas for process, product, safety, and cost improvements.
  • Perform safety and risk assessments and contribute to safety initiatives.

About You

Candidates should have:

  • An Honours degree in Chemistry or related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience in product development within inorganic chemistry, especially silica or alumina, in an industrial setting.
  • Knowledge of particle chemistry and physics, or coatings industry experience.
  • Good understanding of chemical manufacturing industry and safety protocols.
  • Ability to innovate and introduce new methods.
  • Competence in Six Sigma, DOE, and statistical analysis.
  • Team leadership and independent working skills.
  • Experience with intellectual property documentation and patent processes.
  • Strong reporting, presentation, and communication skills.
