Job summary

JAM Recruitment Ltd is recruiting a Product Development Engineer for a Glascoed-based role. The position is a 12-month contract, paying 38.25 per hour Umbrella Inside IR35.

Work will involve design and trials across the full product lifecycle within a leading UK defence organisation in Glascoed. The role requires hands-on development with energetic materials, strong systems engineering skills, and governance throughout the lifecycle, with opportunities for professional accreditation and security

Qualifications

• Proven record of supporting engineering teams and projects.
• Strong engineering skills: identify issues, analyse causes and present solutions.
• Degree/HND/HNC or equivalent qualification in mechanical engineering or related field.
• Desirable: Incorporated or Chartered status through a recognised institution.

Responsibilities

• Supporting product design and systems engineering activities for new and legacy products, including design and evaluation using systems engineering tools.
• Process design and evaluation (PFMEA, PCP) ensuring safety remains a priority.
• Hands-on development with energetic and other materials to support product design.
• Conducting trials from Trial Plans through safety assessments to reports.
• Applying Engineering Governance across the product development lifecycle from concept to disposal.
• Configuring and maintaining Engineering Bills of Materials for products.
• Supporting costed proposals for external customers.
• Cross-functional stakeholder management to support project delivery.

Product Development Engineer

Glascoed Based

38.25 per hour Umbrella Inside IR35

12 Month Contract initially.

This is a great opportunity to work within one of the UK's leading Defence organisations based in Glascoed.

Product Development Engineer:

• This role provides a unique opportunity to work with the design of defence products and processes, as well as the chance to witness and conduct product trials. The role requires broad scope of fundamental engineering techniques with good variation of day-to-day activities and involvement across the whole product lifecycle.

What you'll be doing:

• Supporting product design and systems engineering activities for new and legacy products, including product design and evaluation using systems engineering tools (e.g. Pugh Matrices, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA .

• Process design, definition and critical evaluation e.g. Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), Process Control Plans (PCP) ensuring safety remains the highest priority in the working practices of yourself and the team.
• Hands on development with energetic and other materials to support product design and development activity.
• Conducting and managing trials in a safe and suitable manner, from creating Trial Plans, Risk and Safety Assessments through to trials execution and producing professional reports.
• Application of effective Engineering Governance throughout the product development lifecycle supporting design reviews from concept to disposal.
• Configuration and maintenance of Engineering Bills of Materials for products.
• Support the generation of costed proposals for external customers.
• Cross functional stakeholder management and collaborative working to support project and proposal delivery.

Your skills and experiences:

• Proven record of supporting engineering teams and projects.
• Strong Engineering skills: particularly the ability to identify issues, conduct technical analysis of causes and identify and present solutions.
• Degree/HND/HNC or equivalent qualification or experience within mechanical engineering or equivalent disciplines.
• It is desirable for engineers to become recognised as Incorporated or Chartered Engineers through an appropriate recognised professional institution. Engineers are encouraged, and will be supported, to achieve relevant accreditation.

Desirable:

• Current valid UK Security Clearance to SC level or higher.
• Experience of product and process design.
• Experience and knowledge of manufacturing in a high hazard environment.
• A working knowledge of Systems Engineering and Engineering design.
• Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
