Here at Optum, we have a day rate contract opportunity for an experienced Product Designer to join our highly capable and talented Community & Hospital Pharmacy product experience team.

Responsible for hospital medicine management products, we are looking for a Product Designer to help shape the future experience for our clinicians and hospital pharmacy end users. We place the end user at the heart of what we do and want to see you bring your UX knowledge, expertise and ideas into our team!

Please note this is an inside IR35 day rate contract until the end of December 2025, this is a remote working position with some requirement to travel to office on an ad hoc basis for collaborative meetings.

What you’ll do

As a Product Designer based remotely, you will be part of a friendly, collaborative Hospital Pharmacy team, working with other Product Designers, User Researchers, customers and a range of business functions as appropriate to the task in hand.

You will promote and apply user-centred and evidence-based design best practices to truly understand the needs and motivations of our end users and define design solutions that effectively meet those needs and the requirements of the business.

We’re looking for a keen collaborator and communicator, someone proactive in engagement with stakeholders, comfortable participating in discovery or ideation workshops and with a natural curiosity, eager to delve into a problem to understand the root cause.

There will be no typical week in this Product Designer role, from mapping user journeys and validating assumptions to developing task flows, wireframes and interaction prototypes right through to detailed designs solutions.

With the support of the wider design team, you will have the opportunity to continuously learn, grow and flourish as a Product Designer working across an exciting product portfolio.

Other key responsibilities and accountabilities will include;

  • Identify UX activities and deliverables appropriate to the nature of a given project.
  • Develop user journeys, task flows, storyboards, wireframes, designs and prototypes to communicate ideas and to validate assumptions and solutions with business stakeholders and end users.
  • Proactively engage with stakeholders to capture requirements

Who you’ll be

You are an experienced Product Designer with a passion for innovation and focusing design solutions on end user needs. You will be inquisitive and empathetic, seeking to understand the needs of our customers and internal stakeholders through proactive collaboration and can understand how to apply appropriate research techniques to the task in hand, working with User Research colleagues as necessary.

Collaboration and communication is essential. Having previously work in a fast-paced environment, you will have a proven track record of embracing collaborative, cross-functional working, articulating insights and design decisions and ultimately defining technically feasible solutions that effectively meet both business requirements and user needs.

Other essential skills we are looking for:

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Expert Figma user
  • General understanding of working with a Design System
  • Previous experience working in a regulated industry
