Job description

Our Role

At The White Company, we want our digital experience to feel as inspiring and considered as the products we create. We're always evolving how customers discover, explore and shop with us across our website and app, and we're looking for a Digital Product Designer to help shape what comes next.

Our product design team works across multiple workstreams, so the work is varied: from product discovery and editorial experiences to the moments that help customers choose with confidence and buy with ease.

You’ll lead design work independently - from understanding a customer problem or strategic opportunity through to delivery and iteration. Working closely with product, optimisation, engineering, insight and creative colleagues, you’ll bring people into the process and balance customer needs with commercial goals. You’ll have the space to challenge how we do things, test new ideas and make a visible difference to the customer experience.

What skills & experience you’ll need
  • Experience leading digital product design projects independently, from defining the problem through to delivery and iteration.
  • Strong interaction and visual design skills, with experience creating journeys, prototypes and polished interfaces across mobile, desktop and app.
  • Experience choosing and conducting appropriate research, including customer interviews, usability testing and competitor benchmarking, then applying what you learn.
  • Confidence combining customer insight, behavioural analytics and business context to make and explain design decisions.
  • Experience designing experiments, interpreting results and improving experiences after launch.
  • The ability to work closely with product, engineering and other stakeholders to deliver feasible, accessible solutions and build agreement around a direction.
  • Experience using AI tools to support parts of the design process, such as exploring ideas, synthesising research or prototyping, with sound judgement about accuracy, customer data and when human review is needed.
  • Experience using and contributing to design systems, including reusable patterns and accessibility guidance.
About You
Traits
  • Curious about customers and comfortable moving between different kinds of design challenges.
  • Confident making progress independently and bringing others along with your thinking.
  • Open to critique, collaborative and thoughtful.
Experience
  • Experience as a Product Designer or UX/UI Designer working on consumer ecommerce journeys, ideally within retail across both web and app.
  • A track record of leading projects independently from an initial customer or business problem through to a launched experience.
  • Experience working across all parts of the shopping journey, such as discovery, product evaluation and purchase.
  • Experience working in a cross-functional team with product, engineering, research, optimisation and commercial colleagues.
  • A portfolio that clearly shows your role, how you worked with others, the decisions you made and the impact of the finished work.
Capabilities
  • Strong visual and interaction design skills, with attention to content, accessibility and implementation detail.
  • Able to choose proportionate research and design methods, make decisions with incomplete information and explain trade-offs.
  • Comfortable using qualitative and quantitative evidence to assess whether a solution has improved the experience.
  • You do not need to be equally strong in every part of product design. We value the strengths you bring and your willingness to develop across the full design process.
