Job Description:

Product Design Teacher

Daily Rate: £180.00 - £250.00 per day dependent on experience

Do you thrive in a well-resourced, forward-thinking design and technology department?

Do you value academic excellence as much as you do hands-on technical achievement?

Are you ready to contribute to a school that consistently achieves outstanding outcomes and encourages teacher growth?

Summary of the Role

We are seeking a dynamic and committed Teacher of Product Design for a full-time maternity cover role beginning in September 2025. This opportunity is perfect for someone who can bring creativity, high standards, and strong technical knowledge to a department that enjoys strong student engagement and excellent results at both KS3 and KS4.

This is more than a teaching role-it's an opportunity to become part of a highly ambitious secondary setting that prides itself on nurturing inquisitive, capable, and resilient learners.

School Summary

The school is renowned locally and nationally for its academic performance and enriching extra-curricular offer. Staff enjoy a supportive leadership team, excellent CPD opportunities, and students who are keen to learn, respectful, and responsive to high expectations. The Design & Technology department is a thriving hub of innovation and traditional craftsmanship, equipped with outstanding facilities including laser cutters, 3D printers, and industry-standard CAD software.

  • QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Strong knowledge of current curriculum specifications (e.g., AQA GCSE & A-Level Design and Technology).
  • An Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one).

Key Skills:

  • Creativity and innovation in lesson planning.
  • Strong subject knowledge in design principles and materials.
  • Effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability to differentiate lessons and support a wide range of learners.
  • Passion for design education and student progress.
  • Adaptability and resilience in a busy school environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare and deliver engaging Product Design lessons across KS3-KS5.
  • Teach and assess GCSE and A-Level Design and Technology (Product Design).
  • Use a range of teaching strategies to maximise student engagement.
  • Maintain a safe and effective workshop environment.
  • Support students through the design process, including research, planning, prototyping, and evaluation.
  • Mark and assess student work, providing regular feedback and tracking progress.
  • Develop and update schemes of learning in line with departmental goals.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the department and wider school.
  • Monitor and manage student health and safety in all practical sessions.
  • Prepare students for internal and external assessments.

What We Offer:

  • A supportive, collaborative working environment.
  • Opportunities for career progression and ongoing professional development.
  • The chance to make a significant impact on the lives of students.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.

If you're ready to make your mark in an inspiring design environment and work with students who are eager to bring their ideas to life, this could be your perfect next step.
