Job Summary

Applies theories and principles to both simple and complex work including the design, product characteristics, and documentation necessary to produce the product in quantity. Works with Marketing to ensure the best possible commercialization of the product. Works with Manufacturing to ensure a smooth transition from prototype to production.

Responsibilities

1. Research & Evaluation: Evaluates existing products for re-design based on issues raised by customers, vendors, or internal teams. Assesses functions to determine whether a new product would enhance the existing product line or provide additional functions for customers. Collects data through reports, testing, and customer feedback. Conducts product benchmarking and explores/develops new technologies.
2. Tools: Utilizes computer-aided engineering, analytical, and sophisticated instrumentation technology to assist in product development. Maintains professional technical competence in engineering sciences.
3. Customer Design: Develops project timelines, compares product costs, and selects materials, commercial parts, and technical data.
4. Design: Designs new or re-designs existing product lines. Produces designs, complex layouts, assemblies, detailed parts drawings, and generates bills of materials. Ensures designs support cost-effectiveness.
5. Testing: Specifies product testing procedures. Follows up to correct errors. Works with QA to ensure quality and ISO standards are met.
6. Quality: Adheres to ISO and global quality standards/guidelines in design and production. Assists manufacturing and quality departments in resolving issues encountered in production.

Basic Qualifications

1. At least 2 years of experience in engineering industrial products, with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent). A Master’s degree is a plus.
2. Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal). Ability to interface effectively with staff across departments such as Procurement, Manufacturing, Shipping, Sales & Marketing, and with customers.
