Job summary

The British Standards Institution (BSI) is seeking a Product Certification Auditor to conduct assessments across multiple product schemes. This field-based role covers London & Home Counties, Berkshire, Surrey or Kent with travel across the UK and Europe.

You will prepare assessment reports, lead audit teams, and drive client relationships while progressing toward Lead Assessor status through the prescribed program.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 4 years' industry experience in a product manufacturing environment with emphasis on quality management or product certification.
• Ideally qualified within an engineering or manufacturing subject.
• Previous experience in product assessment or auditing against standards.
• Can travel frequently across the UK and occasionally within Europe.
• Knowledge of quality management system auditing practices (ISO 9001).
• Lead Auditor 9001 qualification would be a major advantage.

Responsibilities

• Prepare assessment reports and deliver findings to clients with clear corrective actions.
• Recommend issue, re-issue or withdrawal of certificates in line with policy and time frames.
• Maintain account responsibility and drive service delivery and growth.
• Lead assessment teams and ensure high-quality service and strong client relationships.
• Provide accurate information to support services and keep client records up to date.
• Coach colleagues, especially less experienced assessors, and assist in onboarding.
• Plan workloads to maximise revenue and efficiency.
• Progress through onboarding to Lead Assessor status per the scheme requirements.
• Prepare for and conduct standardized assessments related to audit practices.
• Manage a portfolio of clients based on location and contract needs.
• Schedule visits, plan assessments, coordinate travel, and report results.

Overview

BSI celebrates 125 years of shaping standards and is looking for a Product Certification Auditor to conduct assessments across various product certification schemes.

Essential Responsibilities

• Prepare assessment reports and deliver findings to clients to ensure client understanding of the assessment decision and clear direction to particular items of corrective action where appropriate
• Recommend the issue, re‑issue or withdrawal of certificates, and report recommendations in accordance with BSI policy, procedures and prescribed time frame.
• Maintain overall account responsibility and accountability for nominated accounts to ensure an effective partnership, whilst ensuring excellent service delivery and account growth.
• Lead assessment teams as required ensuring that team members are adequately briefed so that quality of service is maintained and that effective working relationships are sustained both with Clients and within the team.
• Provide accurate and prompt information to support services, working closely with them to ensure that client records are up to date and complete and that all other internal information requirements are met.
• Coach colleagues as appropriate especially where those members are inexperienced assessors or unfamiliar with clients' business/technology and assist in the induction and coaching of new colleagues as requested
• Plan/schedule workloads to make best use of own time and maximise revenue‑earning activity.
• Must be willing to go through extensive onboarding plan in order to reach Lead Assessor status through the prescribed program (based on the knowledge, skills and experience they have as well as the requirements of the appropriate schemes)
• Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills, to include preparation for and taking standardized assessments related to knowledge and application of audit practices
• Responsible for managing a portfolio of assigned clients based on location and a match of qualifications and client contract requirements
• Responsible for contacting clients and scheduling the visits, planning the assessments, making travel plans, conducting the assessments and reporting and managing the results in an efficient manner.
