Job Introduction
We are looking for 4 producers who share our love of radio to work on programmes across BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra. If you're obsessed with all things music, entertainment, youth culture and radio - then we are interested in hearing from you.
This is a production position working for BBC Audio. BBC Audio devises, develops and delivers original content for the BBC. We produce podcasts, radio and music programmes, deliver live events, provide creative services and forge partnerships. For Radio 1, our titles range from daytime shows like Radio 1 Breakfast with Greg James and Going Home with Vick, Katie and Jamie; to nighttime titles like Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders, Radio 1's Chillest Show with Sian Eleri and Radio 1's Rave Up with Arielle Free.
BBC Radio 1 is a youth music brand aimed at 15-24 year olds. Its focus is to entertain through music across several platforms. Our linear and on demand programmes and mixes showcase a wide range of new music genres and support emerging artists, particularly those from the UK; with over 60 hours a week dedicated to specialist music programming.
The roles on offer will be leading on content on BBC Radio 1/Radio 1 Dance for the following shows:
The successful candidates will be assigned to titles based on a balance of personal passion, skillset and business need. All candidates should be knowledgeable about the music industry, be passionate about new music across the varied genres that Radio 1 covers, and bring extensive experience of radio production to these titles.
Main Responsibilities
These roles are based in London. The successful candidates will be placed across our Radio 1 & Radio 1 Dance portfolio, but they may also be required to work across the wider Radio 1 and 1Xtra production unit.
Producers are responsible for creating music or speech content for live and pre-recorded programmes as well as events and outside broadcasts across our networks. As a Producer, you're expected to collaborate with others to deliver creative ideas and shows to a brief set by Commissioners.
Are you the right candidate?
The successful candidate will be passionate and knowledgeable about black music and culture. You will be driven by creativity, with strong editorial instincts and the leadership skills to spearhead a team in delivering compelling, ambitious and distinctive content for the young diverse 1Xtra audiences in a competitive market. You should have relevant experience in the music or media industry, be able to demonstrate a track record of developing presenter talent and delivering big impact ideas.
In addition to excellent creative skills, you will be a strong communicator, have excellent planning and organisational abilities and be able to prioritise activities to meet operational deadlines. High-quality content production skills including live radio studio operation and audio editing is essential.
