Overview

Whisper Cymru are inviting applications from experienced live sport Producers to work across our growing sports portfolio, including Formula 1, Rugby, Football and Paralympics. Whisper is a leading global production company, specialising in sports, unscripted and branded entertainment. Our diverse team of over 280 work in offices across the UK and beyond, producing sports such as Formula One, UEFA and the Paralympics, as well as branded content, prime-time documentaries and entertainment quiz shows for a range of broadcasters. In 2023 Whisper won a BAFTA and was nominated for an International EMMY. It is co-owned by Sony Pictures Television and is a seven-time Broadcast Best Places to Work. The Producer role is to work across highlights and live sport produced from our production facility, the Cymru Broadcast Centre, in Cardiff. There are opportunities to travel to specific sports sites, as well as working across the wider Whisper Group portfolio.

The ideal candidate will have experience of pre-planning and delivery of live TV sport, and a deep understanding of how production teams need to be organised to deliver programming throughout a long season. Experience as a live programme gallery producer is essential, particularly from a remote gallery. Experience of working with on-screen presentation teams is desirable. A passion for and knowledge of the key sports Whisper Cymru produce (motorsport, rugby, football, Paralympics) is advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

• Work in a leadership role to help plan season-long highlights

• Be a responsible member of the team, with an appreciation of end-to-end production
• Ensure all content is of a first-class standard, thoroughly researched and factually correct
• Work effectively with other departments, clients, and partners (both internal and external), maintaining Whisper’s excellent relationships and communication

• Ensure that output complies with Whisper’s editorial, technical, design and accessibility standards, whilst always working to the company’s Health and Safety policy.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• Proven experience gallery producing busy, informative, and entertaining live sport build-ups
• Desirable: Experience leading a small production team delivering season-long programming
• Experience of writing running orders and an understanding of the requirement for accuracy and attention to detail
• Ability to write clear and concise scripts
• Experience producing an on-screen presentation team, and developing relationships across a season to create the best programming
• Ability to spot a good story, devise and develop strong creative ideas
• Understanding of the edit process and the ability to drive standards and deliver feedback
• Strong knowledge of Whisper’s editorial guidelines and compliance policies, or a willingness to establish this quickly
• Experience with complex workloads, consistently prioritising and delivering to deadlines, reacting positively to changes and conflicts
• Strong communication, decision-making and problem-solving skill
• A demonstrable level of creativity with the ability to bring a fresh new approach to creating engaging and evolving output

• Experience with the Creative and Editorial guidelines and compliance policies, or willingness to establish quickly

Working Arrangements

Working Days: This is a 4:1 position, 4 days in the office, 1 day working from home. The role will include weekend working and hours to meet the needs of the productions. Lieu days will be given for any days worked over a five-day week. Whisper offer the option of flexitime hours subject to production requirements.
