Job summary

Bradford Corporation's Culture, Policy & Events team is delivering major regeneration and growth projects across the district. We seek a creative Producer to shape Bradford's cultural programme, turn ideas into high-quality experiences, and collaborate with artists, partners and communities to realise ambitious events.

Responsibilities

• Develop and produce cultural programmes, commissions, festivals, events and creative activity from initial concept and research through to successful delivery and evaluation.
• Originate and develop creative ideas in response to the priorities of Culture, Policy & Events, identifying opportunities for new work, collaborations and cultural experiences.
• Develop commissions, co-commissions and co-productions with artists, creative practitioners, cultural organisations and other partners.
• Initiate and support research and development, creating space to explore ideas, test new approaches and develop projects towards future delivery.
• Develop creative content and programme strands for Council-led festivals, events and initiatives, as well as programmes developed collaboratively with external partners.
• Build strong relationships with artists, producers, cultural organisations, communities and local, regional and national partners, bringing different ideas and perspectives into our work.
• Work closely with Events Managers and other specialist colleagues to turn creative ideas into deliverable programmes, bringing together creative ambition with event, technical, operational, access, marketing and logistical requirements.
• Manage cultural projects and productions, including schedules, budgets, artists, creative teams, freelancers, suppliers and partners, ensuring activity is delivered effectively and to a high standard.
• Commission and manage artists, creative practitioners, freelancers and specialist suppliers, including developing briefs, contracts and agreements and supporting them through the delivery process.
• Develop inclusive and accessible programmes that create opportunities for Bradford's diverse communities to participate, collaborate and experience high-quality cultural activity.
• Work with colleagues and partners to identify funding, sponsorship, partnership and other opportunities that can increase the ambition, reach and impact of our cultural programmes.
• Evaluate and communicate the impact of our work, using evidence, feedback and insight to inform future programming and contribute to the delivery of Culture Is Our Plan and Bradford's wider cultural ambitions.

Through these areas, we connect culture, events, tourism and place promotion with the district's wider ambitions for growth, regeneration and investment.The service was integral to the successful delivery of Bradford UK City of Culture 2025 and continues to work alongside Bradford Culture Company and partners across the district to support its long-term legacy. We also lead Culture Is Our Plan, the district's 10-year cultural strategy for 2021-2031, working with the cultural sector and wider partners to build on Bradford's extraordinary cultural strengths.Culture has a vital role to play in Bradford's next chapter. We develop and support cultural programmes, commissions, festivals and creative activity that bring people together, animate our places, tell Bradford's stories and create opportunities for artists, organisations and communities. Sometimes we create and produce activity ourselves, sometimes we commission or co-commission new work, and sometimes we develop ideas and programmes in partnership with others.

About the Role & Main Responsibilities

This is an exciting opportunity for a creative and collaborative Producer to help shape and deliver Bradford's cultural programme at an important moment for the district. You'll develop ideas and turn them into high-quality cultural experiences, working across festivals, commissions, events and other creative programmes that respond to Bradford's people, places and stories.You'll work in different ways depending on the opportunity. You might develop an idea from scratch, research and test a new concept with an artist or partner, commission or co-commission new work, develop the creative programme within a larger festival or event, or work alongside an external organisation to bring an ambitious idea to life.You'll take projects from initial idea and research through development, production and delivery, bringing together artists, creative practitioners, organisations, communities and partners along the way. You'll work closely with our Events Managers and colleagues across Culture, Policy & Events, drawing on specialist expertise in areas such as event management, technical delivery, marketing and communications to make sure great creative ideas become great experiences.

We're looking for someone with curiosity, imagination and strong producing skills who can spot opportunities, develop relationships and make things happen. You'll be equally comfortable discussing an early-stage idea with an artist, shaping a programme with a partner, managing a commission or budget, and working through the practical detail needed to get a project over the line.

What We’re Looking For

We're looking for an experienced, creative and collaborative Producer with a strong understanding of cultural programming and production and a track record of turning ideas into high-quality cultural experiences. You'll be curious, imaginative and culturally engaged, with the confidence to develop ideas from an initial conversation, opportunity or brief through research and development, commissioning and production to successful delivery. You'll understand how to work with artists and creative practitioners, and you'll be comfortable developing commissions, shaping programmes and working across different artforms, themes and settings. You'll be a natural collaborator and relationship-builder who enjoys developing work with others. You'll have experience of working with cultural organisations, communities and partners, bringing together different perspectives and expertise to create work that is relevant, inclusive and ambitious. You'll understand Bradford's diversity as a creative strength and be committed to developing cultural experiences that are accessible and meaningful to different communities and audiences. Alongside your creative instincts, you'll be an organised and confident producer who can make ideas happen. You'll be comfortable managing projects, budgets, commissions, freelancers and competing priorities, working closely with colleagues and specialists to navigate the practical requirements of delivery. You'll bring sound judgement, flexibility and a solutions-focused approach, with the ambition to create cultural work that reflects the energy, creativity and confidence of Bradford.
