Overview

Job Title: Subcontract Manager

Location: BAE Systems Glascoed

Contract: 12 months

Rate: GBP40 per hour PAYE

Role Purpose

We are seeking an experienced Subcontract Manager to join our procurement and supply chain function on a 12-month contract. The role will lead a team of procurement professionals within a cross-functional, integrated environment, managing complex, high-value subcontracts that are strategically important to the organisation. You will ensure effective contract management, supplier performance, and stakeholder engagement while driving value for money, risk reduction, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Lead business-critical subcontract projects of significant size, complexity, and strategic value.
  • Source, negotiate, and contract for complex equipment systems, services, and capabilities.
  • Manage customer orders, product introduction, and onboarding of new suppliers.
  • Drive supplier development activities including APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning).
  • Lead change management processes related to subcontracts, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Oversee contract execution including supplier performance management, cost effectiveness, and risk mitigation.
  • Conduct sub-tier and schedule risk analyses, implementing strategies to manage risk and opportunity.
  • Ensure governance compliance across the procure-to-pay lifecycle and achieve agreed service levels.
  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, promoting ethical practices and corporate responsibility.
  • Define and execute effective stakeholder management at senior levels, both internally and externally.
  • Utilise procurement and supplier management tools/systems to monitor supplier performance, implementing improvement plans and sharing best practice.
  • Support procurement change programmes, embedding continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Effectively delegate workload across the team and provide leadership in line with functional requirements.
  • Manage and develop team members, ensuring resources are deployed effectively and talent is nurtured.
  • Act as deputy to the Senior Procurement Manager where required.
  • Travel within Western Europe and Asia may be required to engage suppliers and support programme delivery.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Proven experience as a Subcontract Manager or in a senior procurement role within complex programmes.
  • Strong background in procurement, contract management, and supplier management.
  • Experience with customer orders, new product introduction, supplier onboarding, APQP, and change management.
  • Skilled in project management, governance, and risk management practices.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at senior levels.
  • Ability to resolve complex, non-routine problems with minimal guidance.
  • Experience leading cross-functional or strategically important procurement teams/packages.
  • Good working knowledge of procurement systems, risk management tools, and the procure-to-pay lifecycle.
  • Willingness to travel internationally (Western Europe and Asia) when required.
