About the role

Do you want to be at the forefront of one of the world’s most ambitious sustainability initiatives?

Balfour Beatty has created iconic buildings and infrastructure worldwide over the past 115 years, redefining excellence and setting industry benchmarks with every project.

As a result, alongside several consortium partners, Balfour Beatty has been selected by BP (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage, a key driver behind making Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster.

Balfour Beatty is seeking an experienced Procurement Manager to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside project at our new Redcar site in Teesside.

The role is responsible for managing supply chain engagement and procurement activities across the Mechanical & Electrical scope of the NZT Project, including supporting the wider team.

What you’ll be doing

As Procurement Manager, your responsibilities include:

  1. Supporting the delivery of a supply chain / procurement strategy, focusing on operational excellence, subcontractor excellence, supplier relationship management, supply chain development, and performance measurement.
  2. Creating a market-leading supply chain strategy for the NZT Project and Net Zero Pipeline.
  3. Ensuring our supply chain has the capacity and capability to meet future needs, developing new supply chains, and fostering early collaboration with suppliers to maximize innovation and value.
  4. Leading procurement and supply chain management plans and reporting processes.
  5. Working with the Commercial team to ensure all governance approvals are in place.
  6. Developing procurement plans based on project requirements, including RFQs, supplier evaluation, negotiations, and contract management.
  7. Identifying demand and capacity issues, developing risk mitigation strategies.
  8. Managing supplier performance data to promote continuous improvement.
  9. Managing procurement relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  10. Staying informed about market developments, demand trends, and risks.
  11. Delivering value-added, agile procurement services that exceed service expectations.
  12. Establishing long-term, value-focused relationships with suppliers to drive competitive advantage.
  13. Managing stakeholder relationships and working within multidisciplinary teams.
  14. Leading, developing, and coaching team members to build high-performing teams.
  15. Promoting collaborative working practices, continuous improvement, and mutual trust.
Who we’re looking for

The essential qualities and experience include:

  • Extensive experience in procurement management.
  • Effective people management skills considering individual skills and needs.
  • A pragmatic, disciplined approach to process compliance.
  • A results-oriented mindset with a proven track record of exceeding targets.
  • Problem-solving skills and initiative to identify improvements and propose solutions.
  • Knowledge of procurement ERP and e-tendering systems (e.g., Oracle, Jaggaer).
