The Procurement Manager will play a critical role in overseeing all procurement activities for both companies, ensuring that the businesses secure the best value while maintaining high standards of quality and supply reliability. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, maintaining optimal inventory levels, and supporting the production team in meeting client deadlines.

This is a standalone role suited to a hands-on professional with experience in SME environments and a proactive, strategic mindset.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and refining a strategic procurement plan to align with business objectives, ensuring a focus on security, efficiency, and value for money.
  • Managing a portfolio of trusted suppliers for critical materials and services, leading negotiations and mitigating risks to ensure continuity of supply.
  • Ensuring adherence to strict security protocols and regulatory standards, collaborating with both the compliance and operations teams for audits.
  • Effective budget management and cost control, with an emphasis on accurate forecasting, reporting, and identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or timelines.
  • Oversee materials management and purchasing of critical print inputs including security paper, inks, consumables, and envelopes. Coordinate closely with production and warehouse to ensure optimal inventory levels and minimise waste.
  • Process Improvement & Systems to improve efficiency, transparency, and accountability.
  • Champion sustainable and ethical sourcing practices, ensuring these considerations are embedded in supplier selection and contract management.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with internal stakeholders including Production, Scheduling, Compliance, and Client Services across both companies.

Candidate Requirements

Essential:

  • Proven experience in a procurement or purchasing role, preferably within manufacturing, print, or production environments.
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience managing supplier relationships.
  • Strong commercial awareness and cost management capabilities.
  • Thorough understanding of stock control and supply chain operations.
  • Ability to work independently in an SME with minimal supervision and have excellent communications and interpersonal skills.

Desirable:

  • Background in the print industry or similar manufacturing sector.
  • CIPS qualification (or working towards it).
  • Knowledge of sustainable procurement practices and supplier audits.
