Qualifications

Job description

To lead and deliver best-in-class category management, sourcing, and supplier relationship management across WRU and the four Regions, driving both cost savings and strategic value. The Procurement Manager will help embed a new procurement function that delivers commercial excellence, drives continuous improvement, and supports Welsh Rugby’s long-term sustainability and growth.

Salary: £45,000 - £50,000

Closing Date: 11th July 2025

35 hours per week. Monday to Friday

Our working hours are generally 9am – 5pm but our approach to hybrid working - ‘Team Tactics’ means you can flex your hours and attendance in the office to support a sustainable work-life balance

Responsible to: Head of Procurement

The Person

Knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Significant experience of working in procurement including leading category strategies and supplier negotiation
  • Strong commercial acumen and structured strategic thinking
  • Demonstrated experience working in complex, cross-functional environments
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to lead multiple sourcing projects
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills at all levels
  • Proven ability to engage stakeholders and build consensus
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, change-oriented environment
  • Pragmatic and delivery focussed
  • Confident managing ambiguity and change
  • Passionate about driving improvement and innovation
  • Experience within a regulated procurement environment is desirable
  • An understanding of sports, events or entertainment sector is desirable as is familiarity with sponsorship/commercial partnership procurement models.
  • Ability to communicate and work through the medium of Welsh is desirable
The Role

Key responsibilities, tasks and activities:

  • Design and implement category strategies that deliver cost savings, improve service, and unlock value through innovative sourcing and supplier engagement.
  • Deliver targeted savings and efficiencies across key spend categories through rigorous market engagement, negotiation, and contracting.
  • Lead end-to-end sourcing events (RFX, RFP, RFQ), including commercial analysis, supplier evaluation, and award recommendations.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships across WRU and Regions, gaining buy-in for procurement initiatives and ensuring effective delivery.
  • Develop and manage supplier relationships, performance frameworks, and continuous improvement plans to ensure delivery of value over time.
  • Support the development of simple, effective procurement policies and processes that are embedded across the organisation.
  • Act as a role model and change agent, supporting the cultural shift toward professional procurement and commercial discipline within Welsh Rugby.

WRU Requirements

The WRU require that individuals are proficient in IT skills, specifically Microsoft packages. Excellent written and verbal communications are essential, along with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh and a Valid UK Driver's License is desirable
