Job summary

Sphere Solutions in Cardiff is seeking an experienced Procurement Manager to manage supplier and subcontractor relationships, oversee procurement strategy and ensure supply chain compliance across projects.

You'll work within the Commercial & Contracts team, help implement a new ERP system, and deliver cost savings while maintaining high standards of safety and responsible sourcing.

Qualifications

• MCIPS or equivalent professional procurement experience.
• Experience in procurement or supply chain management, ideally in construction.
• Strong negotiation and supplier management capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Manage PSL and supplier compliance including insurance and safety standards.
• Source suppliers, obtain quotes, negotiate pricing and agreements.
• Conduct supplier audits and KPI reviews; drive cost-saving initiatives.
• Build strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure supply continuity.
• Support project mobilization and site operations with procurement inputs.
• Analyse spend and prepare procurement reports for decisions.
• Assist ERP implementation, handling supplier data and pricing records.
• Attend project start meetings and oversee procurement arrangements.
• Promote health, safety, environmental compliance and responsible sourcing.

Procurement Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Procurement Manager to join a growing contractor, taking responsibility for supplier and subcontractor management, procurement strategy and supply chain compliance.

Working as part of the Commercial & Contracts team, you will play a key role in securing best value, strengthening supplier relationships and ensuring the supply chain meets the business's operational, commercial and compliance requirements.

You will also support the implementation of a new ERP system, helping to improve procurement processes, reporting and supply chain efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and develop the Preferred Supplier List (PSL), ensuring suppliers and subcontractors meet all required compliance, accreditation, insurance and health and safety standards.
• Source suppliers, obtain competitive quotations, negotiate pricing and agreements, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Conduct supplier audits and performance reviews, monitoring KPIs and addressing any areas for improvement.
• Build strong, long-term relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure quality, value and continuity of supply.
• Work closely with internal teams to understand procurement requirements and support project mobilisation and site operations.
• Analyse supplier expenditure, monitor costs and produce procurement reports to support commercial decision-making.
• Support the implementation of a new ERP system, including supplier data, pricing agreements, compliance records and process improvements.
• Attend project start meetings, visit contract sites as required and ensure procurement arrangements are in place.
• Promote high standards of health, safety, environmental compliance and responsible sourcing throughout the supply chain.

About You

• A relevant professional qualification, such as MCIPS, or equivalent practical experience.
• Previous experience in procurement or supply chain management, ideally within construction or a related industry.
• Strong commercial awareness, with experience negotiating supplier agreements and securing competitive pricing.
• A good understanding of construction procurement, subcontractor management and UK supply markets.
• Experience managing PSL's, supplier audits, compliance checks and performance reviews.
• Excellent relationship-building, communication and negotiation skills.
• Strong analytical and organisational skills, including supplier spend analysis and cost reporting.
• Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel, with ERP or procurement system experience advantageous.
• A proactive approach to problem-solving, continuous improvement and maintaining high standards of compliance.
• A full UK driving licence and the flexibility to travel across the UK when required.
