Job summary

Outsource UK is seeking a Procurement Lead to join a major engineering and defence organisation in Barrow-in-Furness on an initial 6-12 month contract. You will lead procurement activities, develop strategies and manage end-to-end procurement from sourcing through to contract award, while negotiating for best value.

The role requires strong stakeholder management, commercial acumen and ability to operate in a regulated environment. It offers hybrid working with 1–2 days onsite per week.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in Procurement Lead/Senior/Strategic roles.
• Experience across sourcing, supplier management and negotiations.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Strong commercial awareness and analytical capability.
• Experience in engineering/manufacturing/defence or regulated environments preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a project-focused setting.

Responsibilities

• Lead procurement activities across projects and categories.
• Develop and implement procurement strategies.
• Manage end-to-end procurement from sourcing to contract award and supplier management.
• Lead commercial negotiations with suppliers for best value.
• Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and suppliers.
• Monitor supplier performance, costs, quality and delivery.
• Identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency.
• Provide procurement expertise to project teams.
• Ensure procurement complies with processes, governance and contracts.
• Support resolution of commercial issues.
